My Canarywood purchase

Blog entry by GaryK posted 244 days ago 263 reads 0 times favorited 15 comments Add to Favorites

Last week while I was in California I stopped by at a place I used to get wood.
I was just going to look until I found this canarywood. All of the canarywood I have
seen before has been straight grain kinda plain looking.

Here is 17bf I had shipped back home. $5.99 a BF.

The flash washes out the color, and without the flash it’s dark. So I included both.
It’s kind of hard to get a true sense of what it looks like in a picture but I think you
will get the idea. Almost all the colors in the rainbow with great figure!

I think it’s really pretty wood, Gary. What are you building from it? I’ve never seen Canary Wood. Tell us about it.

Wowsers! All of the canary wood up here is about 18 bucks a BF. That’s a nice score, Gary!

beautiful raw material, I’m sure you have something in mind that will no doubt turn these planks a memorable work.

I have no idea what I’m going to do with it.
I know nothing about working with it.
I have no clue how to finish it.
I am just clueless.

I just know that I have never seen anything like it before and had to have it.
That’s the thing about wood. You will never ever see that piece of wood again.

I will keep you all posted on what I end up doing with it though.

The colors are fantastic. I had never heard of canary wood so I had to look it up. Thanks for forcing me to think beyond oak, cherry, walnut, maple, pine and poplar. It seems that there are other woods out there that are just as gorgeous.

Nice score Gary.
I really handles nicely with hand tools or power and takes a very even stain.
Your are going to want more.

Some good looking wood there Gary! I can’t wait to see what it becomes!

Great wood Gary. Don’t rush this one. Put it away for a rainy day.

Karson – No, I left a couple of skinny little pieces.

Grumpy – I’m still thinking about what I’m going to do with it.

Look at my post about Tropical Exotic Hardwoods. I am going to post a couple of pictures of the fantastically
figured cocobolo.

That is some fantastic wood. I recently ran across some canarywood and am in the process of making a shaker style end table with it. Once you take a look at the range of colors in the wood you can’t help but fall in love with it. Nice find Gary!
