Amen to that one!!!(about the apple) Just checked out your work and quite honestly all I can think to say is WOW!! Just beautiful. And ya know, where does someone get wood like that mahagany you used for the dresser and headboard you made? I am serious, never really thought about it before, just curious. Allison

Hey GaryK,

Thanks for the message. I am quite inspired by your free-standing shop!
Love the bench by the way, I can only hope to emulate. Of course I have all the workbench books known to man. and am dead keen to get that moving after dust-collection in the new space. From what I’ve read I need to come to terms with the fact I will end up building a few benches over time, so to not try and solve everything on the first one! I am also impressed and interested at the variety (and skill) of your work. I will be peeking further into your little world a little deeper in the coming days….

Nice projects by the way! So much to do and learn. This weekend I built the Mandacino bench, or whatever they call it from the california Redwood website. Pretty beefy, but I learned that I need some bigger tools to work with the 4×6’s…lots of hand sawing this weekend. I’ll have to get a digital camera next and put my future projects up.

Gary, you must have seen one of the shaker ironing boards before. I have never had anyone even come close to gussing what it is. I’ll put up a box in day or so, haven’t been guessed what kind of wood it’s made of, see if ya can put a name to it. Semper Fi Gary!

Thanks for the welcome. I’m a member of many online communities and this is the first time I’ve had so many different people actually welcome a new member. I’ve only recently discovered the site and I’ve already found it very useful for a novice woodworker. This site seems like a fantastic community and I can’t wait to join in with questions, projects and someday insight.

Thanks,

Pat

Wow . . .thanks for the welcome. I feel somewhat guilty joining since I’m not really a woodworker . . .yet! It’s a dream of mine and I was enjoying what I saw and read on LumberJocks. Looking for inspiration and words of advice on how to get started.

well gary i have to say that i may have stumbled upon your work a few times in the past. the truth is i never really spent much time looking at all of your projects. this morning i was looking thru profiles and i saw yours once again on the second page of the most discussed projects. as i began to look thru each and every project i was taken back at how much time and precision you put into your work. everything from the amazing box of joinery to the unbelievable highboy and low boy mohagany dressers. the thing that struck me was how much patience you must really have. working out every detail in all your projects. especially the box with the full extension dovetailed drawer slides on that amazing piece of art you call the one box of drawers. i am truly inspired by you. i see allot of unbelievable woodworkers on this site but i see more passion, time, and detail in your woodworking than anyone on this site and i truly mean that. great stuff and i hope to see many more. keep it up

Hey, GaryK

Do you ever work in your shop? It seems to me that you prefer being on the computer and talking about it. Over 6000 posts in 300 days? Every site has a know-it-all. I guess you’re the one on this site.

On the other hand, your wife probably prefers you being on the computer rather than telling her how to cook dinner and arrange her spices in the cupboard.

Just a thought :)

PS. Nice mustache there, Magnum!

I finally got some pitcures posted of my workshop, as you asked. Will try to get some up on my latest project… a coco bolo floorstanding mirror – it is almost ready for assembly.
