Great neighbours! - 3 replies

This is not at all woodworking related, just an expression of relief by a frazzled woodworker. I have just come back from the hospital where our local paramedics took my wife in after a weird after dinner accident. After they scooped her up and got her on her way our neighbour Randy from across the street knocked on the door offering to look a...

Skills topic addition request - Sketchup or layout/drafting skill? - 2 replies

Hello Martin, As always I am very impressed with this site and am grateful that you do such a great job on it. Would it be possible to add a category to the Skills tags that would encompass layout, drafting or Sketchup skills? Maybe Sketchup could be added to the Tools tags? Thanks again for all the work you put into this site! Mark

Too nice of a day to be at the paying job! - 8 replies

Morning All, I’m having a hard time getting started at work this morning, had two cups of coffee with Jenn this morning (a rarity on weekdays as I’m usually out the door before anyone stirs) we had a huge rainstorm over night so the world smells clean and fresh…. and it looks like it is going to be a perfet day for making sa...

A wee little block plane in a set of Footprint chisels. - 2 replies

Hello all, I just had a real surprise. Years ago I bought Jenn a set of 4 Footprint chisels when we were renovating our last house. The set came with a two sided ‘sharpening stone’ and a wee little plane about 3 1/2 inches long by a bout 1 inch broad and about the same high. Cute I thought they’ve included a little toy pl...

Steamed cherry? - 5 replies

Jenn and I are looking at doing a bit of renovation here and are looking at using either cherry or maple (...no we are not using lacewood…) depending on what Jenn’s final vision for flooring/cabintes/tile etc will be. Any way, we were at our local Windsor Plywood looking at both cherry and the assortment of maples they had on hand. ...

Ever hired a babysitter to get time in the shop? - 11 replies

Last Friday was a miserable EMS day in my world; stress levels were through the ceiling and Jenn had to be at work moments after I got home(late) so I was thrust abruptly into Dad mode. Not being in the best frame of mind to deal fairly with the kids I lucked out that the neighbour’s daughter was available to babysit the kids. I leaped a...

Contact lenses in the shop...good idea or a trip to emerg just waiting to happen? - 19 replies

Do you wear contact lenses in the shop? I am torn by the convenience and clarity of contacts but and concerned about the potential risks of dust etc. I also hate the idea of dropping a pair of glasses in the shop and breaking them. Any suggestions?
