Happily married father of two. Recently moved to Brandon from Winnipeg and finally have a wee bit o' time to work on all the wood projects my Wife, Jenn, and I have been looking at in all the assorted magazines. Have been doing woodworking off and on since I was a kid but recently have been able to start setting up a shop in the second bay of the garage! I've a few tools with the most recent acquisition being a General 1.5 hp dust collector. It sure beats the old broom and pan. I am probably way to excited by this tool...it is extremely fun to use and I've collected piles of sawdust already.

I glue the through tenons. Wood movement affects the tops more than the base, but I leave my mortises just a little over just in case. The walnut beauty stretchers are not glued. If you go to my projects, you will see many slats going one way or another. None of these are glued. Captured in the framework, where would they go? It lets the wood move on its own and hopefully lends a long life to my furniture. I joined Lumberjocks not too long ago and it was a great move to a great woodworking community. I have not set up a blog and don’t know if I will, spending too much time online keeps me away from my shop, but send me a message to my homepage for any info or etc.

Cool, thanks for answering my questions. I thought the outer frames would lock in the interior pieces. Checked out some of your other work…very nice.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.

God Bless
tom

So where is the bookcase design?

I know it’s late and all … but I’m sure I speak for others when I say we’d still like to see it!
