Well I have heard it said that there are only 5 different stories in Self employed woodworking world. So here is mine. Self taught, read constantly, have a two man operation in Hastings Michigan. We have a sales office in Caledonia Michigan. Have been doing this for about 12 years now. Started in the rough stuff and have progressively moved towards the finish end in the past 5 years. Mostly cabinets, entertainment centers, mantles, and such. All custom. We mill evrything ourselves from scratch. We outsource nothing. My dream is to have enough work to have a 5 or 6 man shop where I can do what I really enjoy.....designing stuff. I have so many plans locked up in my head but no time to work on them. Gotta pay the bills ya know.

Wow,
I didn’t expect to get any comments, let alone right away. I have been to many woodworking forum sites and found that most are either hooks to get your e-mail for advertisements, or completely devoted to how to make the most out of that 1×4 you bought from home depot. After reading through the blogs on this site (which my fiance found by the way) I found the advice seemed to be coming from people with experience. More over I felt that most were genuinely trying to help. You don’t find that alot in our business. Too many times it’s shops cut throating each other. If they would just open them selves up to the possibilites of networking and shared experience I think that they would like their work much more. I know I do. Any way thanks for the welcome comments guys. I hope to have the time this week to put more of our bigger projects in our gallery.

Hi Chris
Welcome to Lumberjocks. Good group of people who love wood working as much as you do. I have been blessed to be a furniture designer/cabinet builder for the past 35+ years. I really enjoyed doing the proto types and special projects at work and at home. I will be looking forward to seeing your work as time goes on.
