Another design design for the pool table

Blog entry by John Nixon posted 505 days ago 282 reads 0 times favorited 7 comments Add to Favorites

I’m back for some more design advice. The discussion / feedback on the corbels was great, and I thank all who participated.

Next topic for design consideration is the addition of a stretcher between the legs on the pool table.

Some things that are up in the air:
  • Whether to add a stretcher or not. The legs are stout enough that I don’t need it for stability, so it’s purely asthetic.
  • If a stretch is added, should I do a through tenon look where the stretcher comes throuh the arched cross member? Perhaps not quite as prominent as you see in the picture.

I know you folks will have some good advice, so lay it on me. Pros, cons, yeahs and nays…

Thank,

I know this isn’t helpful – but I could take it or leave it. I mean, it does have so much heft on it’s own that it doesn’t really need it aesthetically (to my eye). That said, it also ties it together fairly well!

Down with the stretcher it is!
Thanks to all that responded. It affirmed the direction I was going in.

I wish it was Drew.
I took the summer off I guess. Not intentially avoiding the pool table project, but some other more important woodworking projects and opportunities arose. I’ll be back to the pool table in a bout a month or so.
