I am a self taught woodworker. I have never had any formal training other than just what I picked up from growing up on a farm. I learned my woodworking skills from doing various construction jobs while working my way through college. My interests are wide and varied. I tend to lean towards Arts and Crafts and Mission furniture. I build, design, and install my own work. I have trained and studied full time for over two and a half years under various stained glass master artists. I designed, installed and constructed several hundred individual pieces of stained glass. projects and windows. I have found a new creative outlet for this passion when combining this craft with woodworking. I have restored the home I am currently living in. I have blogged extensively about the project in a series called "This Old Crack House". This is featured and posted on this site in Lumberjocks.com Featured in this home is over 143 pieces of hand made furniture along with 125 stained glass windows and several other free standing pieces . I also created, constructed and installed a one of a kind stained glass ceiling, that has been featured in several local and national media outlets.
I serve as a seasonal state licensed building inspector for a city in the Minneapolis Minnesota area. I specialize in residential construction. I serve on a special task force for foreclosures, fraud and problem houses for the city. I serve as the staff consultant for urban renewal projects in restoration, rehab and construction renewal of neighborhoods. When time permits I teach specialized classes in woodworking and stained glass. Although less frequent, I still buy, rehab, and restore old homes and offer these for resale. I have did over eleven of these homes and projects just my neighborhood area over the years.

I’ve done a bit of stained glass, I’m a pretty good woodworker, I held a journymans card for suspended accoustical ceilings, so I’m more that qualitfied to say thats one hot ceiling you have there!

I think he spends a lot of time in his shop. I noticed a TV mounted. I wonder if there’s a cot in the corner, a shower in the back, and I’ll bet dollars to doughnuts there’s a coffee maker and a Microwave somewhere in there. No real need to go up to the bighouse, except to rest and read what I can only guess is the biggest seller of all time.

Do you mind if I put a link to your site on my home page?

I have been checking out your projects and shop. Very nice work. Your skills with the stained glass are very complementary to your style of furniture making.

I was watching one of my favorite shows last night. I was sitting there on the couch, and I saw a preview for an upcoming spot, and I recognized some Mission work, so I couldn’t wait to see it. I watch the opening introduction, and if I don’t find anything interesting in the episode, I delete it quickly to clear more room on the DVR. But, this time, I saw that glimpse of Mission work, and so I fast forwarded the DVR to that spot.

Then, they introduced the spot, and showed some more work, and I thought, “I’ve seen that before.” Then, they introduced the artist that made all of it and his name was “Dusty” from Minnesota. Then, they panned the rooms of Mission furniture, and I recognized the pieces in the room. I called to “wife”, “honey, Dusty from lumberjocks is on t.v.” She came running in, the kids came running in, and we all watched with great joy as our buddy Dusty was interviewed, showed his work, showed his lamps being built, showed his stained glass ceiling…....

The episode was “Look What I Did”

Dusty, I can’t believe I hadn’t heard that you were going to be on tv. The spot of was excellent, and you were shown as true master of your craft….I was very proud of you.

Congrats from one of your big fans!!
Mark

Mark Decou,

Thank You.

I am truly humbled and honored with your kind words.

I tend to shy away from the attention and go about my work quietly.

Again I am honored and happy you enjoyed the TV show.
