Turning #2: More Rough Bowls and Blanks

They are all very beautiful Dorje, in a roughly manner, that is. :o)

I absolutely love the profile on the third picture, I’m going to save it and steal it for the day I will be able to get a lathe. An that spalted grain… you gotta love it, its gorgeous. Show us the final result when it’d be done, please.

Dorje, you might try using some thin Hot Stuff (red label) to consolidate the punky wood. It won’t look too bad if you finish the bowl with some clearcoat finish or other.

How big is the swing on that new lathe? This Mini of mine is making me have bowl envy…
Everything ends up Barbie Tea Party sized by the time I get the banjo under the blank.
Then I think about Jockmike and SawdustII (Lee) and I’m thankful I can spin anything.

just ram that punk full of epoxy -5 min stuff works fine and you can color it to match the wood or knot.
I finishes like the rest of the bowl.

Douglas – 16” swing – but the 12-14”ers beat me up right now. Should be able to turn most any size off the end (witin reason) if I fix up some kind of outboard tool rest. I’m not even there yet! I’m loving the Ken and Barbie size stuff at the moment! The bigger stuff takes a lot of effort! I’m sure am beat after turning and cutting blanks today!

I hear ya, Dorje. I mounted a 9 inch blank at my second pulley setting and the mini nearly galloped off the bench. I’m at 500 rpm now and things don’t calm down till everything is round. Are you using the faceplate to mount up?

I see a floor mounted tool rest in your future. Yeehaw!

Douglas and Bob – When should I use the Hot Stuff glue or the epoxy? Should I wait til the rough bowls dry?
