Tour of CanuckDon's Small Shop.

Blog entry by Don posted 618 days ago 902 reads 0 times favorited 41 comments Add to Favorites

If you are interested, take a tour of my small shop. This video is not very professional and refers to some Aussie specific stuff which I won’t bother explaining.

Hope you enjoy.

Hi Don;
—-so when can we expect to see you on your own weekly show, our Aussie “Woodworking Don with TimberJocks Updates”; from the ‘down and under of Oz land’?

Very good show mate and may the sun continue to shine on all ten of your fingers as you work that wood. What type of ‘splitter’ is that on your table saw?

Yes Don, 3 meters x 10 meters is easier then 9’-10’’ x 32’-9’’, see what hanging around you is doing to my way of thinking.

Have a very good day!!!
Godspeed,
Frank

So, I’m stubborn. I was trying to figure out how big the shop was in feet.
And that is a great idea Frank, he can probably get funding from Canada ay? (I hear he’s rich… he has a $75,000.00 Colonial Hutch)

A very impressive video. It was nice to hear your voice also, I expected you to have an Aussie accent. I have recently purchased an DVR-Cam. This gave me some ideas of another use for it. I think you’ve introduced a whole new venue for the Lumberpodcastjocks

This IS the New D.I.Y. We’re about to hit the big time, Mates. Sponsors crawling out from underneath the boards, Companies giving us free tools. I guess I’d better get with the program. My camera will only take 7 minutes of video at a time.

7 minutes is plenty of time unless you planning a feature length video like, ”Gone With The Wind”

excellent video.
1) I was thrilled to see your table saw “thingy” in action. I really like that.
2) nice to almost meet you and to see how /where you create all these wonders, and
3) gotta love the Canadian flag hanging there :)

Just saw the video. great shop. Your sliding table for the TS is a really cool jig, I can imagine the uses. I also like what you did with the drill press, very innovative.

Quote Frank: ”What type of ‘splitter’ is that on your table saw?”

This is a fairly standard splitter on Table Saws sold in Australia and Europe. Here’s a close up of the splitter that shows how it’s attached to the table saw. It was supplied with this splitter, or ‘riving knife’.

I did a video on making wooden hinges, but it’s so full of mistakes, that I am loath to show it. I don’t have any software to edit out the screw-ups, so would rather not post it. Sorry.

Kaleo, I thought the “Canuckdon” would be the give-away, but the video with the Canuck flag clinches it. Forty-five years in Canada – Canadian by birth; Aussie by choice.

Wrong on both counts, CD. I’m not a drinking man, and have never been very much interested in team sports.

Listening to classical music and woodworking, that’s what I do in my shop.

By the way, in Australia, you refer to your shop as a “shed”. It took me a while to understand this so, when fellow woodworkers referred to their sheds, I at first assumed that that was the place where they stored their wood (timber).

Great video Don. How do I refer to my shed that doubles as a garage?

Also I love the ending. Is that truly how gravity is down there? I mean sideways and all??

Hey, Bill. You call it your shed. If your bedroom is your woodworking shop, it becomes your shed.

And yes, the ending was when I relaxed. I struggled all the way through the video holding the camera upside down, but during the last few seconds, fatigue set in and gravity got the better of me. LOL

Don -

Just re-visiting your shop tour post in light of the Video Shop Tour Challenge. I’ve looked at your video many times before and realized that I have never left a comment. Outstanding video! Love your shop and shop solutions. And of course, your video was posted long before the challenge was a concept – just what I have learned to expect from you!

Very nice Don…what a great small shop….I think I have you beat in “smallness” though…:) I need to build a table saw sled like that…..once I get a decent table saw…I’m also glad to hear that workshops are referred to as sheds….makes me feel better about my own shed.
