This is a tour of my garage shop in Portland, Oregon. Yes, I do have to park a car (actually 2 vehicles) in my garage. I don’t mind because it is my space and at least I get to pursue my hobby. I know there are a lot of guys like me that have a multi-purpose garage as thier shop, so this is for all the small garage shop guys! Thanks to Martin, Marc & Niel for this awesome video challenge. It has been very cool to put a face and voice to all of the LumberJocks that have posted a video tour. Also, thanks to my daughter Kelsey for getting me to get this done today before work, and last but not least, my wife Beth who supports and encourages me. Enjoy!

David, your shop/garage is awesome. I think I should like to have such a space someday. It is also nice to see someone else with some of the same tools (tablesaw, router table (less the lift for me), dust collector, planer). The cabinet storage is outstanding! Good luck with filling the rest of them as time goes on.
What are your thoughts on your hybrid TS?

I think you should win just because it sounds like you have your acceptance speach already down pat. I’ll be driving through Portland on my way to Seattle in a couple days…maybe Wednesday Night or Thursday. I would like to make it to Portland by Wednesday because there is a musician up there I like and I’d like to catch him at a local place. His name is Stephen Ashbrook.
Great shop. I really liked your video. Funny, you’re personality is much like I thought it would be. Maybe because I am still an Oregonian at heart.

David, nice shop tour. As for your personality, it matches my imagined image also. Interesting how you really get to know fellow Lumberjocks through the combined process of posting and video-casts.
Thanks,

That was a great tour, David. It has to be handy knowing where most things are and being so organised. I often misplace tools that I was just using 5 minutes ago, when I havn’t moved my feet in 15 minutes. If I didn’t have an assistant to get me through my day, I’d have a tough time finding a pen. That looks like a great shop. Did I hear a jet fly overhead? I used to live about 5 miles away from PDX airport and the ANG F-15’s used to shake the cupboards.
Great shop and didn’t I read that, “Thou shalt not covet thy imaginary friends, Domino?” LOL
Good tour and great to have your daughter help you out as camera person, guest star!
Cheers!

My first thought of course was, oh boy I’m going to get to see where my loom was made. I never guessed thought that it was built in the most organized shop I’ll probably ever see again. Wow, your shop is so nice, I can see why you enjoy working in it so much. I bet you have a hard time getting your friends to leave once they visit your shop. I wouldn’t be surprised if you win the contest. I think your daughter did a good job getting your video off the ground and helping with the finishing touches that made me laugh.

Thank you all for the kind comments!
These shop tours are a lot of fun and it has been wonderful to get to see inside some of our fellow LJ’s castles, as well as, put a face and voice to thier postings.
Mot, before shooting our video I had to swear on a stack of Fine Woodworking to not covet my imaginary friend’s Domino or other tools! You did indeed hear a jet fly overhead – we frequently hear and see the ANG F-15’s fly by. The ex-Navy in me always loves that sound and sight.

That reversible finish table is a great idea. Just to let you know it might be borrowed. Did you make those big cabinets your other tools are stored in?

Very nice video produced by a very nice person. It’s sure nice to see a shop that’s as well organized as yours.
Be sure and give your daughter a pat on the back, for her great intro.

PanamaJack – Thanks! I consider it stolen. It works out well for my space saving needs. I did not make the cabinets – they were installed in our garage by a garage cabinet company. I am planning on copying them for our house in Sisters, Oregon. (Not sure if that requires any new tools . . . most likely will need something for that project!).
Dick – Thanks for your kind comments! Kelsey appreciates your approval. She was very excited to see all the comments.

I really like your shop. Well organized. It’s also a pretty big garage. Your Video stopped on me when you were at the hvlp sprayer and I tried to get it start back up, but no luck. Otherwise you did an excelent job. If I was you by the festool, everything they make kicks but.

For some reason, I could not get the video to play on windows/IE. Any chance this is an issue related to your recent upgrade?

Just hanging around home and not working. Trying to get some shop time. Am planning to get some time in the Redwoods sometime during the time off. Frank has inspired me.

Shop time . . . I am jealous! I will have to post a couple of photos of my shop. It is full of siding supplies, windows and tools from the siders. Are you going to try and obtain some redwood burl?

Yup and I’m not a real big Redwood burl fan. Give me some big leaf maple or Myrtlewood and I would be happier.
