vacum press

Blog entry by Davesfunwoodworking posted 403 days ago 471 reads 0 times favorited 8 comments Add to Favorites

I was wondering if any one has any plans on a home made vacum press. I also am wondering if a vacum pump for air conditioning would work? Can any one help me. Can any one tell me if they all work the same? I would like to build one but Iam not sure how. Any help would be great. Thanks Dave.

I’ve seen folks talk about using the compressor pump out of a refrigerator as a vacuum pump, so anything that draws a vacuum should work. I second the JoeWoodworker.com suggestion.

The main issue with veneering (once you get the bag issues worked out) is just drawing out a sufficient volume. You don’t need as much of a vacuum as you do with, say, sealing food, but for a big bag you need to draw out a lot of air relatively fast. That seems to be the only limitation on which pump you use.

I second joewoodworker. Lots of info there. He will show you how to build one using either a vacuum pump or your compressor with a venturi. Also check his companion site veneersupplies.com for parts.

Yep, another vote for joewoodworker. I built the vacuum venturi system used with a compressor. No regrets.vacuum press

I never make anything like that myself. I just want to pay the money and have a warranty because I use my tools as a business.

I have an electric vacuum pump from VacuPress Systems. They are great to deal with for the pumps, bags, and other supplies. They have some really good videos you should get.

I understand a lot of guys want to make their own tools and that is OK too. I had the cover off of my vacuum pump and my brother and I were looking at it. It sure resembles the pump he has for drawing down A/C units.
