I've been working wood since about 1980. I built several pieces of furniture in the 80’s and have posted some of those here. After we built our current home in 1992, I spent most of my free time on house upgrade projects - finishing the basement (including my shop), adding a deck, and building a room addition. I've now gotten back into the shop with a backlog of furniture to build. As my wife Debi and I are now empty nesters, I have plenty of time to spend in the shop.

I'm a software architect and developer by day. Whether working with wood or software, I get my satisfaction from designing, building, and improving my skills. I’ve kicked around the idea of making a living as a woodworker, but I realize that it would be a pretty tough venture. I really respect those of you who do it. Maybe once I retire from the corporate life…

Dave,
You asked what sort of finish I used on the cutting board. It was salad bowl finish, I cut it a bit with mineral oil.

Welcome Dave, I have been roofing most of my life and couldn’t help but notice you are sitting on a roof using toe boards, what is the pitch of the roof?

RAH – The roof is 8:12. Nothing at all to a pro, I’m sure, but it felt pretty steep to me. This was on a laundry room / kitchen pantry addition that I built a few years ago. Of course, I managed to time things such that I was nailing shingles on the hottest day of the year.

I was able to buy the same shingles and siding as was on the rest of the house, and match the existing roof line, so the addition blends in pretty well. Here are a couple of pictures:

Thanks for asking!

Welcome Dave!
We used to stop & eat at a nice restraunt on our way to the cities, but I can’t remember the name of it.
