Started wood carving 2 years ago while trying to prove a point to a guy who said he could not 2D an animal carving. I found I had the knack for doing Tiger's heads and then incorporated wood burning for the shading. Carving Dragons became another favourite which involved scroll sawing, the bug was securely planted when I was told how to make wooden flowers. Then Easter 2008 I bought a Midi Lathe and proceded to teach myself to turn, lots of email's full of help and encouragement from Cathy and Pat and I was right into doing projects.
I have never had so much fun, being able to take a piece of wood, no rules and regulations to follow and letting the wood show you what it
wants to be. Have since made a lot of saw dust and of course a lot of firewood but will always be back for more tomorrow.
Have now served my apprenticeship with the parting of the top of my right thumb on the bench saw. Always lessons to be learnt.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless

Welcome To Lumberjocks, You have found yourself amongst some very wonderful folks! I saw your Dragon earlier, I have a husband that is a Dragon nut. I too have a dragon posted here. I like your tiger also. One of these days I want to play around with a woodburning tool a little more I think after seeing these two projects it may have inspired me to go get it out and give it a try on something new, Thanks! Welcome and PEACE!!!

Thanks again for the warm welcome, I’m slowly working through the great projects and admiring the skills of other members. Sure is a great group and so glad I joined.
Hi Allison, that’s a great dragon you carved, very unusual. Get out your woodburner and add to your skills.
If you are like me you will learn quickly from your errors. I found out that it is better to burn twice on low heat than once on high. Hey, give it a go you will love doing it.

Welcome to LJs!
Sir, your work is astounding. I for one would like to see you blog the process of forming and finishing a work of the complexity and beauty of your dragon. Thanks for sharing your projects with us.

Thanks Douglas, being new on here I never thought of blogging on the procedure I used but will be only to glad to share. Will work on the blog over the weekend and hopefully fellow LJ’s will be able to follow.
The truth is I was as surprised as everyone else at how good it turned out. Sadly this carving was sold but one day I might have the patience to do another. Easy with the Sir please Doug we are all mates on here.
