Thought it might be fun to share photos of my tiles drying.
Then again it might be boring.
Well anyways !!
Tiles are sitting on the fiber ceiling tiles you buy from Lowes. Bought the damaged ones real real cheap.
Ceiling tiles are the best for this. Draws the wetness out of the clay and speeds the drying cycle time.
Also have an industrial size box fan blowing 24-7 on them. They’re getting dry extra-quick.
Will start a kiln load sooner then estimated.

Cool! Will you be hand painting these or will you be firing color on them? is there a problem if the clay dries too fast?

Will probably try several different things. Some will be traditionally pottery glazed and refired. Some will be traditionally glazed and fired only once. Some will be bronze acid patina
Most of the time, drying is critical. If tiles are dried too fast they can crack or warp.
However, I’m using p-clay or sculpters paperclay. It is stoneware clay, grog and paper fiber mixed together. Something relatively new and only available commerically locally within the last few weeks.
This batch is only the 2nd time I’ve used it. Last time I had excellent sucess. My tile making has always been plagued with tiles breaking in the kiln etc etc. Sometimes 50 percent loss for the big ones.

Been thinking about using a airbrush to shade the fired tiles.
Mark’s furniture blog mentioned him using a airbrush on his Sandzen carvings. This has inspired me to try that technique. Hope it works for me.
