New "Posting" rules - 7 replies

Thanks and kudos for the new posting rules. Some of the guys and gals here might not know of a run-in we had here awhile back when one of the members went about bashing just about everything and everybody. Martin eventually “whacked” the forum post as it had generated countless replies of general disgust for this individual, it wa...

Tips and Jigs - 31 replies

The “Reviews” section of this site has worked out so well, I was wondering if we could rattle Martin’s cage to give us a section for posting “Tips and Jigs”. It could be catagorized the same way the “Reviews” section is, which would enable you to look up specific jigs for say, the table saw. Whacha...

What...was your first woodworking project? - 61 replies

You young guys won’t have any problem with this but us older guys…? I’m not sure, but I think my first real project was building a new breakfast nook table for a (real pretty) neighbor lady back when I was 15. That’s 35 years ago boys (and girls). I made it out of 3/4” plywood with a laminated top and edgeing, on...

Need ideas for gun rack - 5 replies

I’m building a gunrack for my stepson that will be located inside a closet. Nuthin’ fancy here, just two supporting shelves that would accomodate say 8 rifles/shotguns. My question is: How can I lock these up to prevent or deter removal? I’m pondering a bicycle cable lock…your thoughts would be appreciated.

What do "you" want? - 22 replies

I was out in the lab today playing with my tablesaw, new dado blade, adjusting the depth of cut, readjusting the depth of cut, makin’ some simple hotplates and I came up with an idea. Now we LumberJocks are getting pretty big and if the tool makers and engineers haven’t found us yet, then snooze they loose! There’s a wealth of ...

Which power tool causes the most injuries? - 52 replies

One of the Jocks recently brought up a safety question regarding tablesaws. This got me to thinkin’ that there are a lot of power tools out there, which one could be the worst? What do you think?

6" Stacked Dado, 5 blade set - 4 replies

Up for grabs here is a 6” stacked dado set made by Curtis Mfg. It is the Cut Rite 5 blade set, it’s old and it has a 3/4” arbor hole. Read this carefully again: It has a 3/4” arbor hole! So it will not fit my 5/8” arbor…Well, it does and it wants to shake every nut and bolt out of the saw too! I bought this...

LUMBERJOCK EYE CANDY - 6 replies

A while ago i questioned the forum if maybe anyone had seen or knew anything about clock type wood wall art. I think Debbie was the only one to respond, although unable to help. There was something missing in my Google search so I just couldn’t find it. Then last night I was explaining the operation of a unit that uses kinetic energy and t...

TOOL REVIEW SEARCH BAR - 6 replies

I got an idea, or maybe it’s just gas…I’d like to see a search bar, or forum added for a “Tool Review” posted by fellow members. In other words, say I just bought a new Festool tablesaw. I could post the make and model number and my review. Now say you are looking for the same one…You could type in the make an...

Making your own Lathe tools, etc. - 4 replies

In reference to this post: http://lumberjocks.com/topics/559 I remember recently watching a woodworking show called The Woodwrights Shop, on PBS. In this particular show this host uses only non-electric tools…everything’s antique and done the way our forefathers did it. It’s really cool and worth watching. So on this partic...

Tell me (and everyone else) about Corian. - 9 replies

I’ve no experience with Corian although I understand it can be shaped with woodworking tools. So my idea was to use a scrap of Corian to replace the side tables on my outdoor grill. How will Corian take the elements? If I drop a piece will it break or shatter? How easy is it to cut and shape? Would it make good tool handles? Can it be sand...

Porter Cable Mag saw recall - 6 replies

I set my Porter Cable MAG 324 (circular saw) down on a sheet of plywood the other day and triggered the switch to make sure the power was on. It came back at me, twisting my right wrist to the left as it dug a 1” gouge in the plywood. No injury here except for the sudden awakening. I figured that I must’ve accidentally pushed the bla...

Quiet please! - 17 replies

OK guys and gals…I’m asking you to put on the thinking cap and tell me how I can quiet down this Campbell Hausfield air compressor. Eventually I’m going to build an attached shed and move it into there but for now it sits under the workbench and is loud, to say the least. Any ideas?

Hey guys and gals…What do you use to get rid of the accumulated pitch on your saw blades? I tried a comercial brand once but wonder if simple gasoline or kerosene would work better.

"How strong is your glue?" - 11 replies

Gorilla Glue took a major hit in the shins recently with an article published in the Aug07 issue of Fine Woodworking magazine. Seems that “The Toughest Glue on Planet Earth” is not. Out of six various glues tested, Gorilla came in with a very poor last place. #1 was Titebond III followed by Epoxy and then regular wood (PVA type) glue...
