My career is with John Deere for the last 20 years. My focus has been in the area of finance and marketing. A truely fantastic company to work for and with and I would recommend the company to anyone looking for a career in manafacturing and/or finance.
Now on to woodworking. Over the past years of raising kids, I've slowly equiped a shop with the key power tools including the table saw, planer, CMS, jointer, bandsaw, mortiser, router table (a couple routers), belt/spindle sander, DC cylcone and a few hand tools. The shop has a work bench and a dead flat type assebly table (built per the woodwhisperer design). The shop is in the basement and takes up an area of roughly 18 x 40 in an "L" shape.
So although the tools are not all high end, they do quite well and my next step is to actually practice....practice...practice and one day maybe be pretty good. The LOML once or twice accused me of being able make a great shop, but questioned the making furniture bit. She keeps me honest. To her credit, I do have a nice desk completed and a nearly finished coffee/end table set.
Now, building a shop up with tools is pretty cool and pretty easy. Learning the craft is the exciting part and that is where I am at right now. Learning every day, trying, sharing and improving.
