I didn’t make any headway on my cabinet today, but did make progress on my shop equipment. This morning, a friend and I rented a U-haul trailer and picked up some new woodworking machinery. He purchased a Powermatic 15” planer/molder and a Jet free-standing buffer. I purchased a Jet 10” Left Tilt Cabinet saw. I also got a great deal on some Jet clamps. As everyone here knows, you can never have too many clamps. After scratching our heads a bit, we were able to unload both tools at the respective garages and I started to open boxes and assemble my new saw.
I purchased a Delta mobile base for the saw and the saw fit perfectly. I liked the rectangular framing better than the single extension of the HTC base. Things went together pretty well and I was as thorough as I could be to ensure everything was square and adjusted correctly. The mobile base works great and is easy to move. I attached the legs to the outrigger with angle brackets and adjusted the feet so they are on the ground when the wheel is up.
I relocated one breaker in my box to free up two side by side slots and will install the 240V outlet tomorrow. Can’t wait to make more sawdust. I also removed the runners from the bottom of the sled/box joint jig I had just made for the old table saw and put new runners on it to match the spacing of the miter slots on the new Jet saw. Naturally, they were not the same spacing.

Am I green with envy or am I green with envy? Here I am handsawing a pile of wood and in comes this post. Some boys really have all the luck. And the tools too.

I have the same saw in a right hand version. I now wish I had the left but I do have the advantage of not haveing to reajust the rule when I change blades. You will come to love the saw. The only problem I’ve had was with the belts. I think the factory belts lasted me about 8 months. All of a sudden I was burning on rip cuts. I thought the rip fence was off or the arbor was out . I called Idaho Tool and was told to check the belts. I tightened them and it helped for a while but no for long. I then got new belts and they lasted about the same amount of time. I switched to link belts and we will see if that cures the problem. I do know that I can now rip hardwood nearlly to the saw’s capacity with no problem. I just wish it was a 14 inch saw instead of a 10. LOL Never satisfied. The rolling base really looks good.

Ahhh…that made my morning! Congratulations on the saw. That will bring you some real joy! I look forward to seeing it make some dust! Good tip from Thos.Angle on the belts…it’s my experience that when Thos. mentions something he’s learned, it’s something worth keeping in mind.
Congrats!

Good for you! Isn’t it funny, new tools are so exciting and so much fun to put together and get set up. Ah, the joys of woodworking. Have fun using your new saw – and clamps.

Before getting the Jet, I used a Bosch 4000 worksite saw. Frankly, this has been a very good saw and does 99% of what I needed. Good accuracy, pwerfull enough to run a full kerf Woodworker II blade in 6/4 oak. The cabinet saw was probably more of a “want” than a “need”. I listed the Bosch on the Seattle Craig’s List site on Sunday and have already got a buyer who will pick it up either tonight or tomorrow.
The outlets are in and the saw has been run – no sawdust yet, but very shortly.
