sawyer needed - mid atlantic

Blog entry by Chip posted 308 days ago 182 reads 0 times favorited 9 comments Add to Favorites

I have a log I’d like boarded and need a sawyer with a portable mill that will make house calls. Unless I’m losing my mind (which of late could be the case), I seem to recall an article in one of the wood magazines this year or last that had an article about sawyering and the companies they used as examples were not to far from me (around philadelphia). Does anyone else recall this article and if so, could you let me know the name of the mag and the issue? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Chip -

I am wondering about the log that is about to show its inner treasure . . . walnut perhaps? Hope you post photos if what you find. Good luck finding a sawyer!

Chip also call Woodmiser and ask them for people that saw in your area. They will give out names and phone numbers of people that do custom sawing.

David, Thanks again for the info. I have a tree in mind and will shoot some pics if this happens. Thought it was worth getting the info, even if this one doesn’t pan out.

Karson, I called one of the sawyers off of the FW list David gave me. He happens to be right across the bridge in Pennsville and seems like a very pleasant and enthusiastic guy. He likes making the money but is equally happy about the idea of saving trees from the junk pile, which is great. So far so good and thanks for the posts guys. Much appreciated.
