SawStop Contractor Model Purchase from Cradle to Shop #4: Really Placing My Order

Wow. That’s alot for a contractor saw. How much is the cabinet version?

that is a lot. i guess it all adds up though when you look at the cost for replacing fingers, if they even can be replaced. and the peace of mind that it gives you. thanks for the post and i look forward to seeing the actual saw when you get it.

I’m a little confused by one item on your list. The extra brake cartridge. Don’t you only have to replace the brake if it engages the blade? I would think that the likelihood that you would need it would be almost zero, and even if you did, it would be worth the wait of a couple days, just in case you never end up needing it at all (Saving $70).

The only reason I ask is that I had been thinking about this for a while, and I am surprised by all the add ons. I’m just wondering how many of these are necessary because they are brand specific requirements vs. how many you jsut wanted to have. I hope you really enjoy the product. It is still a little out of my reach, but I’m saving.

I paid less than 1/2 that for my 51” Unisaw including shipping. Too much for me.

Take the fear you get from the sticker shock and apply it every time you’re about to turn on in power tool and take the money and buy a cabinet saw. Just an opinion Thanks for the post.

I say congrats! The 3hp cabinet version will run you around 4k with the bells and whistles.

Maybe I answered my own question. Apparently, if you hit metal, it will lock. Be prepared though. The sound of the brake engaging might give you quite a scare.

The last time I checked at Woodcraft the price for a cabinet saw (3HP) was as follows:

For a 3 hp model this comes to about 3887 with only a 52” fence and extension table- or about 4K as Giz says.

Just looked at both the cabinet version and contractors version at woodcraft today. They had the contrators saw with the 52” rails and tables for around $1700. I dont remeber what the cabinet saw was priced at. Extra brake cartiges run around $60. I am looking at one very seriously in the hopefully near future. My wife is insistant that my next saw be a saw stop. (she is an ER nurse) I will not argue. Congrats on the purchase and enjoy.

The shipping charges are generally based on weight and size/garth of the box/crate and the type of equipment needed to load and unload. I doubt that Sawstop is making money on the shipping end. But I’ve been accused of being naive.

Congrats on the saw. I always have felt you need to buy what you are comfortable with and buy the best you can afford.

The shipping may be high, but my Sawstop was shipped in a awesome crate. It took 3 of us to unload it onto a mobile base. The extra cartridge may not be needed,unless you plan on a hotdog demo in your shop!! Enjoy!!

Congrats on the new purchase! I hope to purchase the cabinet version in the next couple years. I have heard that the SawStop can save its worth in insurance costs in five years. That alone is worth paying extra to me.

Thats a very interesting saw. surprisingly, they sell it here, in NZ. not many things come our way – we can ususally only drool on the kind of tools you have (and the prices!!!). Just checked with the local distributor. they will sell the basic cabinet saw for 5521 NZD (thats 4296 USD). the extras and cartridges follow the same multiplier… Brian, can you share your experience with the cabinet saw?
