Good for you!!! This is a top notch saw and you should be happy with it. I would like to see a blog on the install and a review as well. After all we don’t want you to get in too much of a hurry to start making sawdust. :)

We are looking into getting the cabinet version for the school shop. Pushing $4500 with all the extras including the 50” fence. What sucks is that companies like Depco and Paxton Patterson stick it to schools since they take PO’s. Why can’t the Sawstop have teachers go directly to them and save the schools some money?

I think Sawstop table saws are way overrated and overpriced for a moderately experienced woodworker. There are plenty of woodworkers out there that still have all of their fingers and have been woodworking for decades without guards, splitters, etc. If you are careful, use push sticks and pay attention to what you are doing, you shouldn’t have a problem. To me, Sawstop saws in schools is ideal. In a learning environment, where students are unfamiliar with the equipment and it’s dangers, Sawstop makes perfect sense. Am I the only one who feels this way?

I agree that this is a perfect for the school environment. That being said I also feel that if a person has the means and owning a saw with this safety feature would help them feel more comfortable with the tool, may make them a better woodworker. On the down side I wonder if this feature may also lead to people taking more chances thinking they cant be hurt by it.
Just a thought.

Tony, I would agree on the large 220V model. Overkill for the average woodworker. I’m going for the 110V contractor model that is priced around $1500. That’s $400 to 600 more than a similar Jet, General, Steel City, Craftsman, etc. I think you have to know you personality as it relates to safety, impaitencenesss (not sure that’s a word), risk taking, etc. I need the safety.

I disagree about sawstop being overrated. Overpriced, I don’t know.

You could take this logic, “There are plenty of woodworkers out there that still have all of their fingers and have been woodworking for decades without guards, splitters, etc.”, and make Russian roulette seem ok too. ;-) It’s a big stretch I know. But in both a majority of the participants come out unscathed, and a few do not.

I’ve seen a demo tripping of the sawstop brake in person, and was impressed. I think I’ll get one when I can afford one.

Is a fence not included with the contractor saw, just as with the cabinet sawstop?

Acutally, I don’t know. I got very little info out of Woodcraft. I have to call them back and will let you know.
