Hi there. I’m new here but from what I’ve read so far I’m in the right place to get some good advice from expert and novice alike.

I’m currently building a corner cabinet over a fireplace (gas if it matters). The cabinet is to house a flat screen TV and a couple of components (dvd player and receiver). I was also envisioning a speaker on each side with a center channel in the middle over the TV.

I don’t have any drawing utility programs that would allow me to sketch and post my concept draft on here. Even if I did, I wouldn’t know what to post. My head is full of ideas but not sure if any are good. I’ve been busy for the last year or so renovating my house (interior) and have now come to the last piece that needs to be addressed…the TV cabinet. Since the space over the fireplace is the only free space in the room, it’s my only choice of location.

I’m good with my hands and can probably built anything that I can conceptualize. I have built some cabinetry before and other projects like a back yard Shed, Deck, Fireplace Surround, Columns finished my basement, etc. but would not consider myself a wood worker. After seeing what some of you guys have built, I’m happy to just call myself a handy man.

With all that being said, I would like to ask you all for any information that you can provide to help me build my corner-over the fireplace-tv cabinet. If any of you have built one, I would sure appreciate a picture or any other help in pointing me in the right direction. Any suggestions on material, technique, finish, etc. would be more than helpful.

Thanks in advance to all.

Canuk,

With regards to your question you really should post it as a forum topic it will get more views there. I wish I could help you with your design issue but my wife is still waiting for her mantle that I promised to her some time ago (and trust me I still hear about it from time to time). But as I told her you just can’t rush good craftmanship. :)

Thanks to everyone for all the greetings. It’s nice to be welcomed.

Scott Bryan, I will take your advice and post something in the Forum section. Maybe take a picture of the space I’m working with also. I know that my post is not very descriptive so I’ll see what I can do with jazzing it up a bit.

Thanks everyone again.
