Bookcase Challenge

Blog entry by CanadianWoodChuck posted 99 days ago 519 reads 0 times favorited 9 comments Add to Favorites

Hi All

I just finished playing with my Sketchup drawing for the bookcase challenge. I’m really enjoying using sketchup for my conceptual drawings. I’m so glad that LJ comes up with these ideas, it gives me a great chance to play in Sketchup.

If I was to build this bookcase I would love to use Oak veneer core plywood for the carcus, oak trim where required and a contrasting wood like padauk for the face frames.

This huge bookcase would cover an area of approximately 5’ from each corner, but it would be very practical in a large room. Of course this is a modular unit and the shelves are adjustable. The shelves sit on tracks that are flush mounted in sides of the bookcase sides. Just your normal shelving brackets from the big box stores. The bottom and top shelves are fixed in dattos. The face frames are all mortise and tenon joinery.

I hope you like it.

I hope everyone is having as much fun as I am with this challenge.

Bruce

That looks like a winner to me. Now let’s see it moved from the design stage into construction.

LOML wants an entertainment center – and I have postponed it long enough, due to other committments :-( .
