Budman's Workshop

In the fall of 2003 we purchased a recently built 64’x 40’ pole barn, and an old trailer house on 6 acres of hardwoods, just 30 minutes north of our home. It already had cemented floor, electricity, and even water & sewer.
We worked on it every weekend, building by day and sleeping in the old trailer house at night. We started by building 2×4 frames that fit between the poles, insulating the walls and sheathing it with plywood. We installed drywall on the ceilings and blew-in insulation in the attic.
By now we had decided that the old trailer house was in pretty bad shape and we were not going to put any money into it. So, we decided to partition off a spot in the pole barn for an 16’x 32’ apartment so we could get rid of the trailer house and spend the night on the weekends. By spring of 2005 the apartment was mostly finished, and that summer we demolished the old trailer house. In the fall of 2005 we built a 16’x 64’ addition onto the side of the pole barn for more storage.
Last fall I really enjoyed spending time building Christmas presents. I still tend to spend most of my shop-time building things we need/want, although I have built a few contracted items for people.
