I started the insert… I purposely sized it to be a ‘snug’ fit into base…
Cut the parts, cut rabbet’s for the joints… test fitted that ‘snug’ fit…
Glued and nailed it together, only then to realize that the good ‘snug’ fit in the base is going to be an unwanted ‘snug’ fit for the lid!!!
After thinking about it, and showing my son what it looks like in three dimensions, we came up with some better ideas… I’ll be taking a step backwards and building this part over again (but better)…
