Bedroom TV Mount #1: An Idea...

no previous part Part 1 of Bedroom TV Mount series no next part

I like the challenge of building an item of my own design that perfectly fits my needs.

The apartment in my shop has a loft, which is our bedroom. I wanted to purchase a ceiling mount for my TV to hang at the foot of our bed. The ceiling is very low (6 ½ feet) and we could not find a mount that would do what I wanted to do, for the price I wanted to pay… So, lets make our own!!!

I need something that will hold my small LCD Television and my satellite receiver as close as possible to the ceiling, and have a removable panel to conceal wires…

Here’s a quick sketch of an idea…

I used ½”oak plywood…
All pieces cut

Banded any edges that will show…

Glue ‘er up and put ‘er in the clamps…

So is the top the shelf for the satellite receiver, and then the angled face for the LCD tv to point it down a bit?

Yes, exactly… last night I took it out of the clamps, drilled some holes, sanded it down, and gave it a coat of shellac (as a sealer)… I should have it installed by this weekend… I’ll take more pictures…

Nice design. Consider it stolen. :)

A couple of holes for the wires… blacked-out the first couple inches of the inside of the receiver area (note to self: I need to blacken-out the inside of my wire holes)… a few coats of shellac, and it looks good enough to me… Test mounted the TV, and in a couple of days I should have it mounted to the ceiling…
NOTE: These photos show it sitting on the counter UPSIDE DOWN from the way it will be hanging…

Don’t you just love it when a plan comes together? Good job.
