What a three months it has been since I stumbled onto an online community called LumberJocks. I leafed through the project pages amazed at the craftsmanship of this group. I began to question whether or not I was worthy to join this group. Did I have any knowledge, ability or skill to share?

Like Sparta, facing the hords, I was afraid that like so many forums you find disagreement met with hostility and unsupported bias. Projects lacking for whatever reason not met with constructive criticism but hate and discord. I started to read comments left by folks some currently active and some who seem to have been lost for what ever reasons. My comfort level immediately went up. Because I found so many words of encouragement and disagreements handled wisely with supporting information to show the options. You, collectively, have shown professionalism and courtesy among hobbyist and seasoned craftsman alike, a rare gem in the online world.

I decided to go ahead and create my profile and toss my hat in the ring, somewhat expecting it to be danced upon. To my joy, you made me feel welcome as part of what I think, in its own special way, the LumberJock Family.

Thank you Martin for putting together an awesome site!

Thank you LumberJocks for all you do as craftsman, and some of the most courteous humans I have met in person or otherwise!

I stand ready to lace up my boots, don my hat, and saddle up for what is sure to be a great ride into the future of LumberJocks!

I couldn’t have said it better, Buckskin. Those are the same reasons I’ve stayed. This is an impressive bunch of woodworkers, but a more impressive group of human beings. I’ve often said that Lumberjocks has a conspicuous absence of knuckleheads. I’m glad you feel as welcome as I do.

Cheers!

Tom

Buck, You said it all. There seems to be a sense of brotherly love that pervades this site. The prevalent thought here seems to be how can I help the other person. Believe me, it is a breathe of fresh air. I think it works because none of us wants it to go away. Buck, it’s been a pleasure getting to know you and your work.I sincerely hope we can keep it up for a long time.

And Dennis, if you’re the biggest knucklehead I ever have to deal with life will be a pleasure indeed. Best Wishs for many more,
Tom

Good morning Buckskin,

Reading your post was a great way to start the day. We are all certainly a lucky bunch – having found something that we enjoy and which takes us away from the usual cares of our jobs and other day to day concerns. Many people never find their “safe harbor” so to speak, be it woodworking, or anything else for that matter.

Buck, you hit the nail on the proverbial head. I guess I’ve been helped keep somewhat sane with the help of all the men and women ( who get me all mushy) as you know. But it’s that unspeakable trust and caring and love that you don’t ask for but is just there, that is so heartfelt and permeates this site. It is unusual and out of the norm of regular blog sites. We care about one another and it’s real, not phony or superficial but deep and compationate and genuine and real. Truly amazing. mike

I love the term knucklehead, I can see Moe looking at Curly when I hear that every time :)

Soon after I joined this site..I felt like I was not worthy in skill to post my projects after seeing the level of craftsmanship displayed by many if the members here. But I keep trying to get better and the journey is fun. I feel honored just to be involved. I wish I had more to offer.
