looks like a great piece of wood. yes you can screw things up with a chainsaw. but it also can work well if the saw is properly sharpened. I don’t know your ability – chainsaw wise – but if you have a saw shop in the area have them sharpen your chain so it will cut straight and then work the piece down until you can handle it with your regular equipment. it takes time but will be worth while.
I have cut burls etcetera up to 5 feet in diameter with a chain saw so you can do it – just go slowly and methodically.
another route you can go is to look into what they call the Alaskan sawmill. it is a chain saw type deal and works pretty well for your situation and is pretty in expensive.
