Design Contest

Blog entry by Blake posted 323 days ago 192 reads 0 times favorited 15 comments Add to Favorites

I apologize, this is another non-wood related blog. But I was just wondering if you could do me a quick favor and support some budding artists just by the click of a mouse…

We (my wife, my sister and I) entered a contest for LOADED Skateboards to re-design the artwork for their next skateboard. If our design is chosen it will be printed on boards and marketed worldwide (and there are prizes too).

The submissions are open for anyone to rate/vote on but ultimately the owners will decide based on public opinion.

The contest has been open for a few months now. The deadline is January 15th (in two days). We submitted our two designs last night and in less than 24 hours they became the two top rated designs out of hundreds.

I think we’ve got a good chance at actually winning this contest!

If you don’t mind, Please click on the links below and rate the designs (if you like them). There is a 1-5 star rating system.

THIS SHOULD TAKE LESS THAN ONE MINUTE -Thanks!

First Link: Color Version (Please give “Star” rating)

Second Link: Black and White Version (Please give “Star” rating)

Third Link: Gallery of All Submissions (Here you can check out all of the other designs)

You can also leave comments (on the same pages as the above links) and this is what the judges pay attention to when deciding which design to choose. So positive feedback in the “comment” area would be a HUGE help as well. Even a simple “I like this one” would help. (You know, LUMBERJOCK PRAISE style!)

Our two designs:

Made in California (Color):

Made in California (Black and White):

Background:

LOADED Skateboards is a small skateboard company based in Southern California. They started a contest to redesign the artwork for this summer’s “Vanguard” skateboard. The board is a longboard, which is actually used more for “slaloming,” or racing down hills at high speed. It’s not your typical freestyle skateboard. LOADED has asked that artwork submissions reflect the spirit of the company and the Vanguard board. We based our art on a California theme with bold California Poppies because these boards truly are “Made in California,” and the winding, sloping road represents what the Vanguard is all about.

Wow – those boards are amazing. I cruised through some of the other entries as well and there sure are a lot of talented people out there. I put my vote in for yours though. I hope you all win. Be sure to report back!
