Last Saturday, May 3, my son and I had the privilege of attending the Highland Woodworking 30th Anniversary. Under the big tent they had master woodworking craftsmen of all kinds as well as vendors. There were carvers, turners, a timber framer, a guy hand carving gun stocks and so on. The highlight of the event was watchin Roy Underhill from the PBS show “The Woodwrights Shop”. I was even allowed to make a feeble attempt at Roy’s foot powered spring pole lathe. Of course I had to purchase a few new toys for my shop. If you have never been, I highly recommend you make a visit to the Highland Woodworking Shop in Atlanta, Georgia.

How lucky can you be to meet Roy Underhill in person I watch his shows on tv and I just love the guy working with all those antique tools , I enjoy him more than Norm on the New Yankee Woodshop who has the best of tools I use to like The New Yankee Workshop but now he has too many expensive tools that we cannot afford

I totally agree. I still love Norm but I could never afford his tools. Of course, Roy does things “Old School” which I could never do either. I wish someone would do a show using tools that the common woodworker has. Roy Underhill was one of nicest guys you ever wanted to meet.

The vendors were just advertising but the store had big discount on everything for the day. Cool birdhouse on your page.

Oh I picked up a caliper, a proper wood carving knife, a set of bench hold downs, and a new wood vise. Also a commemorative Tshirt with Roy Underhill on it.
