"Veneering" ply onto MDF? - 4 replies

Hey guys! I’m planning to build a nice, maple table but I am not sure if I will be able to pull off the table top. I am thinking about ‘veneering’ some ply onto a nice big piece of MDF we inherited with our new house. I plan to use a mattress bag (It’s nice and thick, and it’s big enough to fit the table top into), ...

Hi again, LJ’s!My dad bought two pre-fabbed Adirondack chairs, and wants me to finish them. They are a softwood, but I am not sure which. How can I remove it? I do not have a planer or a jointer. Also, is it normal for parts of Purpleheart to shine? When I wet it dow...

Rabbet Plane vs. Jack Plane - 8 replies

Hello,I have the option of buying a jack plane and/or a rabbet plane. I understand these are almost the same, except that the rabbet plane’s iron extends all the way across the plane. If I get the rabbet plane, can I do the same things that I could with the jack plane, AND rabbets? Thanks,Marcel

Which table saw? - 34 replies

Hi,I’m looking to buy a table saw. Is there a big difference between a $120 saw and a $220 saw? (Sorry, I don’t have to models, but I think they are the same brand, and I think they are Delta. The $120 has a solid metal table with ~2×2 in square holes in a grid, and the $220 is made of beige sheet metal.) Also, should I buy a bl...
