Blog question - 4 replies Just curious if anyone knows why a recently added to blog (i.e. someone’s comments) does not put the blog to the top of the page the same as the forum’s page does. Is this because blogs are supposed to be personal space? |

Little Brass Screws - 28 replies How in the world do you install the little brass screws that come with hinges without messing them up? I used a centering bit to drill pilot holes—- waxed the little buggers—- and used a small screwdriver to drive the screws—- still they get “screwed” up. Here is what they look like. I at least managed... |

New unscientific, but I'll expect nothing but honest answers poll - 13 replies how many of you knew that a coping saw is different from a fret saw. I, for one, did not. A fret saw is designed to do much more precise cuts and, if I’m not mistaken can use standard scroll saw blades. I’ll be pickng one up for doing dovetails. |

Workshop security - 17 replies I was talking to my brother not long ago and he suggested that I mark my planes and other “oft stolen” tools with some type of identifying mark. Do any of you do that? |

Novice questions - wedges and triangles - 11 replies Here I am again – showing my novice side. But alas – I’m sure I’m not the only one with these questions——- just brave enough to ask. :-) What is a safe way to cut wedges? I used to have a planer sled that I used a “screw jack” to level out the board while I planed it. When I moved – the s... |

Dividers - 6 replies I’ve been watching the videos on making dovetails on Finewoodworking. http://www.taunton.com/finewoodworking/subscription/SkillsAndTechniques/SkillsAndTechniquesArticle.aspx?id=30001 One of the tools this guy uses to mark out his dovetails is a divider. Do any of you use these to mark out your dovetails and if so, where did you buy i... |

Band saw tune up - 7 replies Working on tuning up the band saw today. I’m putting on new tires. I’m just curious what you all do about the moisture from soaking the tires. Do you let the moisture “drip dry?” I’m thinking I should use a hair dryer to dry the moisture – but wondered if that would damage the new tires. Thanks in advance f... |

Project for church auction - WOW - 10 replies As many of you know, I worked on building a set of adirondack chairs for my church’s auction. Wasn’t sure I’d get them done since I was not feeling well – but I managed. Anyway the auction was tonight and it went really well. The set brought $475 and now I’m making another set for another $475 for the church! Everyo... |

Ok Dadoo - You've got my attention - 12 replies In response to another post you said: “And some really cool fixes are to remove the knot and fill it in with turquoise chips and epoxy! Or you could substitute stone, glass, silver or gold leaf…what have you?” What???? |

Hand planes - 21 replies Why is a set of wooden planes called “A half set of hollow and rounds”? – if it is a whole set why is it called a “half-set?” I’ve tried to find an answer on the internet——but to no avail. |

table saw maintenance issue/question & dust collection question - 16 replies Feeling much better these days, and today was my first full day that I could spend in the powered shop. What a blast! I enjoy my hand tools immensely, but there’s nothing like the humming of a motor. :-) So it’s been a while since my Delta unisaw has been run. When I started to use it today, the motor made a funny clicking type ... |

Contrasting wood question - 8 replies Would you pair oak and paduak? It would be the main box body of oak and a small strip of paduak. I’ve got this thin strip that I’ve been hanging onto and thought I would use it on this box. But since I need Garanimals to match clothes I thought I’d ask your opinions. Thanks |

A special box for GaryK - 24 replies OK – he’s thrown down the gauntlet—- see his flippant suggestion here. http://lumberjocks.com/jocks/Betsy/blog/3937#comments So just for Gary – a “box” made using only “hand tools” which include a serrated knife, fork and not to be left out a spoon. First, of course you must square your ed... |

Rigid 6" Jointer - 12 replies OK – after much debate, thought and advise. I’ve decided to sale my jointer. If anyone is interested, the jointer I would like $250 for and if you want the Shop Fox mobile base – I’d throw that in for another $25. It’s a six inch Rigid jointer mounted on a stand that has not seen much use. I probably can even put... |

Sharpening station - 25 replies I’ve got to start putting together a sharpening station for my hand tools. I’d be interested in your thoughts and pictures of your stations. I don’t have a grinder and want to avoid getting one. I’m leaning toward water stones as my preferred stones. Thanks in advance. |

Plow planes - 6 replies This is an interesting article from Lee Valley on the use of plow planes. http://www.leevalley.com/newsletters/Woodworking/2/4/article2.htm |

Rigid jointer - 7 replies OK – I’ve got this six inch jointer. I use it probably twice a year. I usually end up flatting my boards through the planer on a sled and I straighten edges either on the router table or the table saw using a jig. Even though I’ve jumped with both feet into hand tools, I know that I cannot manage some of the projects I do with... |

Hand tools - 8 replies Many of you know that I’ve been struggling with my health for a while. I’m feeling much better. Having more good days than bad. I have been staying out of the power shop because ill health and machinery generally don’t add up to anything but disaster. Well, until very recently it would have been devastating not to be able to do... |

Bandsaw tires - 2 replies I’m going to have to bite the bullet and tune up my bandsaw so when I get back out in the shop, it will work better. I need a new tensioning spring which I think I can handle. What concerns me is changing the tires. Is this a one person job or do I need to enlist George to help me? Also is one brand better than another? I have a Jet 14... |

Shop Fox mobile bases - 7 replies I have three mobile bases with nothing to go on them. I’m willing to part with them if anyone is interested in them and will pick them up. A couple are missing the little feet, but can get those replaced. Other than that they are in good shape. I just don’t have the space for them. Let me know if you are interested. I’ve not... |
