I have to build these, I just love the look, the size and the way they are made. I should make some and try to sell them, if my wife would let them go. I like the design and it looks like all 1X lumber. When you paint the chair what type of lumber do you use?
I glad your feeling better, I asume making the chair was your meds. It makes me feel good when I finish my projects as well. Thanks for posting your projects.

Dominick – thanks. When I make the chairs from pine – I paint and use 1x lumber. The chairs look best though made out of cedar or cypress. Cypress is my favorite. I generally buy my cedar and cypress in the rough and mill it. That generally gives me a heftier chair. Because the cedar and cypress are a little thicker – I tweak the other dimensions as well to keep the proportions right. I generally add an inch to all my dimensions when I use rough lumber.

This is a great easy project that is easy to sell. The original plans say you can make up to 25 copies for sale – after that they don’t like you anymore.

The only complaint that I’ve ever gotten on these chairs is that it is hard to get out of if you have any knee problems. I generally agree with this statement, although I have a knee replacement and the other knee is close to shot and I don’t really have that much trouble getting out of mine.

Give these a try – you’ll enjoy them.

Woo hoo you got it done. Good for you. You had any number of excuses to give up on these but you stuck it out. I am proud of you Betsy. And your pieces look great. I am sure that they will do well at the auction.

I am just curious about the different styles on the footstools. I don’t remember anything about it from your previous posts on this project.

Thanks Scott. I was not sure what you meant by the different styles on the footstools until I took another look at the pictures. The stool on the right looks like it has a solid top. Not so. It’s a trick of the light – the glare actually is hiding the spaces between the slats. All the pieces are identical.
