I spent nineteen years as a locomotive engineer for the Southern Pacific Railroad before becoming disenchanted with the time away from my family, the tedium of the job, and many hours working. Thanks to my understanding family, I returned to college and became a teacher. I enjoyed eighteen years in front of teenagers attempting to teaching them an appreciation for our history. Finally my knees gave out and I retired early. I am now taking classes at Sierra Community College in furniture and cabinet making. I enjoy this very much and only wish that my skills would improve faster. While I do not intend to earn a certificate, I will take two years of these courses to hone my woodworking.
I have been reading fiction for the first time in nearly twenty years. Dee and I are members of our local library mystery book club and enjoy the monthly discussions. I am trying to master PhotoShop Elements to restore old family photographs and SketchUp to create my blueprint plans for projects I wish to build.
In addition, I still actively work for Social Science teachers in California. I am on the Board of Directors for the California Council for the Social Studies and the president of the Sacramento Area Council for the Social Studies.
We are always busy. I wonder how I was able to fit careers into my schedule before.

Welcome to Lumberjocks. The projects are an inspiration, the information is priceless and the people are supportive. The only problem is, the site can get addictive.
God Bless
