I would describe myself as a woodworking hobbyist, slowly accruing the tools necessary to create fine furniture for family and friends.
My woodworking philosophy: If I am going to take the time to make a piece of furniture, I am going to take the time to do it "right". And to me, doing it right means using good lumber and traditional joinery techniques (I do not run a production shop). I don't always make them well, but I love practicing and have learned to accept the limitations of my tools and my abilities. I like to use a good balance of machine tools and hand tools and am always looking for a way to do things better (not necessarily faster or easier). Lucky for me, my wife and I have simple tastes. We prefer the clean simple lines of shaker, mission and arts and crafts style furniture.
Other tid-bits about my woodworking...
My favorite task: Hand cutting dovetails.
My least favorite task: Sanding
Skill I'm most proud of: Sharpening
Task I'm most intimidated by: Finishing

Thank you welcoming me. I am looking forward to posting some pictures (and stories) of the projects I’ve made so far. I don’t yet have a digital camera, but I want to get one soon. I’ve just finished a couple of cherry end-tables of my own design.
I am now starting on some folding snack tables for the front porch. They are going to be made of mahogany and feature curved legs and a slatted top. They will hold our drinks as we lounge on the porch swing I made last summer. Pictures and stories to follow…
