Krenov-inspired cabinet #3: Overlapping rabbets to fit the doors

The overlapping rabbets are a nice touch Al.

I used a little different method on my Krenov where I rabbeted the back edges of both doors and then glued a vertical strip to one door’s rabbet that provided the back support. This kept the front doors the same visible dimension from side to side.

Of course my doors were flat panels with out rails and stiles.

Thanks a bunch! Your Krenov cabinet was an inspiration to me; I remember seeing it and telling myself I would have to try it, too. Since then, it has been on my to-do list. Your solution to the flat panels is a terrific one!

The double rabbet method I used that attaches the “strip” of wood down the back of one door can work on rail and stile doors too. I couldn’t remember the name of the strip as I wrote the reply, but FYI, it is known as an “Astragal”.
