I have one more apron to cut out on the scroll saw. So tedious, hard for me to sit for long and use the saw. Few minutes at a time. Still I got lucky again. I was going out to visit my Mom’s grave today and right across from the cemetary along side the road was a hugh red oak that had just been dropped. I stopped talked with Mom for a minute then took off for city hall a the DPW. My cousin works for the town DPW and he was there working on something on the work bench. I asked him where the city superintendent was and he said up front. Anyway he said I could have any and all of the tree I wanted. He asked if I had a trailer, which I do. But I was rearended last September and when I got the truck fixed they put the wrong size ball on the rear bumper. The Super. said he would meet me out where the tree was with a back end loader and load the wood up on the trailer. Well I showed up sans trailer but they him and my cousin had also brought the city dump truck so they loaded all the red oak I dared to take home due to the wife. And they dumped it right outside my garage. I could have gotten a piece of oak about six foot long and 6-8 foot around. I’m talking about an old oak tree, I just did’nt know what I could do with a chunk of oak that big. So I took some that had nice figure and I could slice up and use on the lathe. Some of that is pretty big. I do have one piece I could make a table out of. Lucky. and happy. I told the Super. of the dpw that I needed some maple and he promised to contact me if they dropped any. So I’m set for a few years on wood with what I got from an old friend last fall. I’ve got cherry, red and white oak, maple. ironwood, walnut, poplar and elm with some nice red on the inside. Also a little ash. I have’nt had any ash in a long time, due to the emerald ash borer, and the restrictions the state has on transporting the ash or even using it. It is (the borer) really wreaking havoc on our ash trees all over the state. Well this really is’nt a challenge update, maybe some excuse making for not having my table further along than it is. I’m happy for you, you must have an unending grin.
I got some burly Maple at our park a few years ago, that had been cut it down , so I stopped, & asked if I could have some. The guy hauled it right to my driveway. Lots of wood turning wood.

Mike. Heaven to betsy Mike get a trailer, and try to find someone with a woodmiser mill. call Woodmiser and ask for anyone with a mill in your area. They will give you a few names and call them. Get that log into boards.
No more excuses on the G&G its now time. Of course I need to get busy on mine also.

Sounds like you need to get a sawyer to cut that big chunk of oak into some boards for you, Mike. An old tree like that would make some great boards.
