Bad News Today!

Blog entry by jockmike2 posted 231 days ago 846 reads 0 times favorited 79 comments Add to Favorites Watch

I received some bad news from my Dr. today concerning my cancer. He said I still have it in the capsule of my prostate. That it went from seven to nine. The test that determines the cancer in your body. The good news was that they had got it out of my lymph nodes and fatty tissue around my prostate. But that it had penetrated the capsule around my prostate. So he called me after I got home and told me he had talked to the pathologist and they had decided to agressively go after the cancer with hormone therapy and chemo. So thats where I stand. He wants to wait till I get feeling better before he starts the chemo. So please keep up the prayers if you can feel it in your hearts. Thanks and God Bless. mike

Mike don’t get to down about this! This is curable. Chemo etc is never going to be called fun, but this type of cancer has a lot of success stories with it. A good fried of mine(not a patient) went through all of this with a lot of spread and had multiple different treatments. rest of the story, hes been cancer free for 8 years now. And everything has improved since hes was treated. just remember that you’ve got everything going for you..when its gets to a rough spot just bite the bullet and drive on. I have every belief that you can, and will beat this thing.

GaryCN, It used to be after the age of 50 you should be checked yearly with a PSA test. My doctor just told me that he is getting patients now at 36 or 37, therefore if you are over the age of 35, have a family history of prostate cancer or are having trouble urinating you need to go to your Dr. and get a PSA test. At least you will have a baseline. I had mine taken and it, at first was a little high but in the normal range. Then it shot up 4 points in 1 month. That is a lot. The urologist gave me an immediate biopsy exam and found my prostate was full of cancer. That was in one month. So Yes get tested if you are over 35. Its just a blood test. So there is no reason not to. I hope this answers your questions. Thank all of you for your kindness. I am at ease knowing I am receiving this many people behind me and praying for me. I’ll pray for you all too. mike

Mike,

My family is praying for you and yours.
My Dad was in this same predicament a few years ago. He went through radiation and took some pills. He is cancer free and doing well at 79 years young. His PSA numbers were yo-yo-ing and his Dr sent the results to Mayo. Without Mayo the oncologist would not have proceeded with his treatment. Mayo insisted on three test results before they would commit to their diagnosis. To this day he puts his success to his attitude -laughing daily, especially when it hurts (the laughter), support of family and friends -doing things even if it was arguing about doing something, and of course God -who hopefully didn’t always hear His name being used in the shortest psalm known to mankind :)
