What started as a Lumberjock Gatherign has become an Association invited by the Mid Michigan Wood Workers Guild to attend a gathering at Johnson’s Workbench as advertised by them, and Keith July. That’s fine with me, like everyone says the more the merrier. I have no idea why the SouthWestern WoodWorkers Guild have been invited and an invitation to anyone in Indiana have been invited also. I have no idea about the food and am not taking on that. It started out as a dog and burg feed, but that is apparently not an option. So maybe ordering pizza would work. It seems to me this whole thing has turned into a draw for business for Johnson’s Workbench. I guess I’m out on this one. Still friends to all and good luck. The Sawyer in Bath will still be looking forward to a meeting from our members at 5pm. Mike

Mike,

Sometimes you plant a seed and can’t predict the size or color. I for one, appreciate your initiative to start the seed.

A bunch of woodworkers getting together is just a good thing, regardless of the title. A bunch of LJ in the mix has to make it better.

Having a free meeting place supported by the Workbench allows more money for wood and food.

See you on the 21st.

Steve.

under whatever name or function

hope all you attending LJ’s have a good meeting
some of you may find new spots to roam

but i bet there will be more new LJ’s from this gathering
than those that attend at the beginning

enjoy !

I hope you both are right. I really do. It just seems a lot different than our past gatherings, and so far no one has come forward or talked to me about food. Like Rick said, I’m not going to cook for hundreds. It’s in Keith July’s court now, he has my blessing, he’s always been a good organizer, for some reason he decided to keep me out of this loop. Apparently his Guild buddies and him are putting it on. That’s ok with me. Rockler is a good store and they did at least include our name in the email they put out. Kickbacks, did you say you weren’t coming? Anyone want to share in the cherry wood I got from Kelvin? Till later and some feedback, I’ll be thinking about it. love all, mike

Hi Mike,
I never intended to “keep you out of the loop” and can’t figure out how I did that because all posts have been made here, on LJ’s, for everyone to read. My guild buddies haven’t been counted because our monthly meeting is on May 17th and we will get a count at that time.
Johnson’s Lumber put the announcement on their web site because I asked them to. I asked them for a place for us to meet and they said yes, and then they wanted to know what they could do to help us.
Yes, this Woodworkers Swap Meet could bring more business to Johnson’s Lumber, and I hope it does. Just as I hope the trip to Kelvins generates business for him.
LumberJocks and Southeast (Not SouthWest) Michigan Woodworkers share members and they may not see the posting about this gathering and I think we should make an honest effort to get the word out to everyone that would be interested.
Steve nailed it…*Sometimes you plant a seed and can’t predict the size or color

Well it seems that the 2 key planners of this event were left out of the loop. I am still looking forward to the event but I will not be bringing food. I can’t afford it. This was supposed to have been a private function for the LJ and West Michigan Woodworkers guild. Now it has gone beyond that. To me it sounds like a membership drive for the guilds more than LJ. As I stated in an earlier post COMMUNICATION IS THE KEY. We will see you at the get together. Mike if it is ok Nancy and I would like to swing by and visit with you and Kris if you aren’t coming. Peace Brother

Keith, when you and I first talked you said that JW would be willing to host us, they had a building, tables and a grill we could use. I guess I assumed we were going to grill dogs and burgs. It’s pretty hard to plan on the food for an unknown number of people. That’s where the communication stopped between us. I have talked to Ms. Debbie twice to run the notice in the LJ bulletin. Was planning on people bringing a dish to pass. Also in the past we’ve always brought wood to swap, or in some cases to give away to other Lumberjocks. Personally I don’t want to give my wood away to strangers, or non Lumberjock parties. I know Rockler’s in the past have given gifts to raffle off for the Guild, and I don’t mind that they are getting free advertisement. As for my relationship with Kelvin at Raven Farm, he doesn’t give me a break on wood. The Cherry Wood I am getting from him was from an add on craigslist, no special deal there, so I am not tryng to advertise for him. He has treated us Lumberjocks very nicely in the past, putting specials together just for us. I, in no way have an interest in his operation. The problem I had with inviting everyone was and is, this started as a Lumberjock gathering and got turned into a Guild mtg. and we were invited. I know you’ve been trying to have this over at the Workbench, and can understand why. I guess I’m being a little anal about the whole thing. I ask for your forgiveness and really want you to finish with the plans. In my past blogs I too have talked up Johnson’s Workbench, aside from high prices, they do have about anything you need. Sorry for the misunderstanding My misplaced anger and pissing you or anyone else off. Friends, mike

Hi Dustin,
Yes, it’s a go.
I spoke to Mike a few days ago and was under the impression that those that wanted to, could put in a couple of bucks for pizza. There are several good pizza places in Charlotte and that decision could be made on Saturday.
BTW…I just checked the weather report and it looks good for Saturday but you can’t hold me to that prediction.
Keith

Hi Rustic,
I think it would be great to meet everyone, once this S N O W goes away. We live in the south west corner of grand Rapids, My hubby works for Kindle furniture, kinda funny that one of our favorite hobby’s is something he does 5 days a week, but the stuff we make at home is way more fun than hand carving furniture. lol
