Anyone up for a Lumberjock Gettogether in Mid-Michigan

I talked to Billy J. the other day, David Craig and Rustic Rick, they all liked the idea but Rick didn’t want to have anything to do with the planning, and I don’t blame him. He’s had a hand, along with me in two of the last 3 get togethers we had. He said something about a gettogether at a woodworking show, but I’m talking about a meal together with friends, maybe sharing some wood with each other or something. The last one was great, but it was too long ago. I would volunteer to have it at my place, and maybe run over to Kelvin Potter’s Place again. Or something else. I’m about 20 miles north and east of Lansing. So if anyone’s interested let’s talk about it. Jockmike2

Mike,

Count me in, but try for a Saturday after October. I am one of the furthest outliers, so don’t think anyone would take up offer of my place seriously.

Mike,

In the past, I looked up a hotel conference room in Lansing off I-96 and it was only $100 last time if my memory isn’t really toasted. Since the majority of the LJs are out your way that might make sense. Couple of us could cover the rent and not cause unnecessary grief on that. It would be indoors, have a bathroom available, room for our show/tell and it allowed us to bring in food.

A run to Kelvin’s mill either earlier in the day or as a finale is a must.

Steve.

Please don’t send me private posts, let’s keep this an open discussion, I would really like this to happen and try and satisfy as many people as we can. Steve, your idea sounds good. Kickback you offered a place near Mt. Pleasant. What type of place are you talking about, your home? That certainly is central Michigan. Come on fellas, let’s talk about this. The first few were great times.

I’ll watch this discussion and if a time and place is decided and confirmed I will do my best to make it. Sounds like a good time to meet people with similiar interests.

WOW what a response so far. The only day can not do it is Nov 13 I have a craft show that day. As Mike said I am interested. As most of you know I have had my hand in a few of these. It is difficult to plan one of these things. I will help out in any way I can. Hey Chris just don’t tell anyone that you live near a Casino (ooops) LOL

Great response guys but I know there are a lot more Michiganders out there, come on lets make this thing a happening, the biggest, bestest one so far, I don’t care either where we have it. We do need a consensus from at least most of the guys, I know Mt. Pleasant is a long drive for the Detroit people, it’s an hour drive for me, which ain’t bad. Come on guys lets talk!!!!

I’m good for any place in Michigan. Mike – your place or anywhere in Lansing is closer for me. But, this is only one meeting. That means any place in Michigan is good. It’s just like anything else, most people are willing to sacrifice something in order to get a return out of that sacrifice. Last year’s get-together was so good that I would not want to miss the next one.

I’m good for any weekend in October except this one. We have three more in October if we plan to have it outside. If it’s going to be in a house, there has to be enough room for LJ & spouse (significant others). If it is going to be at a hall, we need to arrange the date, put down some money, and get things going.

I’m assuming it would be a pot-luck. If at a park, we could have hot dogs. If at someones house, we need to again look at how much space is available. We would probably be able to do more at a hall (tables for food and a place to set up stuff). For that matter, we could have the get-together at any time if we rent a hall.

SO – my 2 cents – hall would probably be the wisest choice; a park would be nice, but it is getting a bit chilly; a LJ house is friendly, but a lot of work for one person. I vote for a hall.

I’m in.
If you want to do the potluck thing, I know of a hall in Dewitt (just north of Lansing) that would cost very little to nothing.
To make it easy we could skip the pot luck and everyone kick in $5.00 and order a few pizzas.
The key to the hall is the date. The date should be set and then I can confirm that it is available.
What do you think?

Keith – I agree with the pizza! I agree with the $5 a person – then everyone could bring some pop/water/drink. Can we set a place and date?

I’ll throw out a date – Oct 30 – does that work for everyone?

I’m driving to the U.P. for deer season, and go thru Lansing and Mt. Pleasant. If the get together is in November I just might be able to attend.

I can’t make October weekends, but could make November Saturdays of 6, 13, or 20.
