I don’t remember everyone’s name but there was a lot of people there yesterday and we had one heck of a great time. I forgot my camera but Rustic Rick took a bunch of pics he said he would put on as soon as he had time. Dustin again brought his bunches of veneer. Wow, I scored on the wood exchange with a pile of curly maple plus a roll of curly maple veneer, how’s that for lucky. I know David Craig got a board of blood wood that will keep him in inlay for life. plus I gave him a small piece of somoan mahogany that I got from Dustin, did I say I love that guy. Kristoffer was a great host and was lucky to have some help as he was unavoidably called away to work for a short time. The food was fantastic and Dustin brought this carmel apple pie, man was that good, Did I tell you how much I like that guy. All the food was great, even the hot pickles SteveMI brought that burnt your throat goin down but mmmmmm were they ever good. Even got to meet Steven Segal, just kidding, he was a master with a Samurai Sword. Well I hope the others contribute because a lot went on while I was gabbing. Thanks again Kristoffer, great time. mike

It was a real good time and the location was great considering the geography circle that everyone came from. Locally the rain was really ugly Tuesday thru Thursday last week and only on Friday did it start to get nice.

Kristoffer ran a wood swap that ended up being a hit. Everyone brought some wood in the $25 range (or project wood that had outlived the project) which got one half of a numbered ticket put on it and then each person drew from a hat to see what number matched. I got a 10’ plank of 5/4 Maple that I swore came from a mill. Later found out the plank was cut with a chain saw and I was amazed since it was really flat.

The projects brought to show was very slanted to wood turning. Great stuff, but us flat boarders will need to pick up the pace for the next get together.

Kristoffer had a couple dogs, one looked like spud McKenzie of the beer commercials, but one that chase tennis balls was amazing. If you threw it within 3 feet of its head the dog would get it in the air.

I have to throw a HUGE THANK YOU to all of you that came out to the BBQ!!! Especially those of you that made the long journey from the west side of the state. And another extra, extra huge huge thank you to Dustin for bringing out the veneers! I’m not sure who brought the bucket o’ scraps, but there’s a big thank you to you as well.
The potatoes were awsome, so were the meat balls, so were all of the brownies and cookies and pies. I didn’t get to taste the pasta salad, but I was just informed that it was delicious. I hope that everybody enjoyed the burgers and jalapenos. Sorry if you got a hot one;-)
I’m happy to hear that the dogs weren’t too big of a pain. We were thinking about taking them to grandma and grandpa’s house for the event, but we didn’t have time.
I hope that everybody is happy with the wood they scored via the lumber swap. I know that I am!!! I ended out getting a piece of brazilian cheery, a piece of mahogany and something else (if you brought the lumber that I picked up, please remind me of what the third piece is). Now, what to do with it???
I’m sorry that I didn’t get to spend as much time mingling with everybody as I would’ve liked, but I really enjoyed having you all over for the BBQ. It was a pleasure to meet all of you and I can’t wait for the next one!!! Now, I’m going to need a BUNCH of veneering tips. Aside from what I picked out, a lot of it was left behind. I would bring some of it out to the next gathering, but I wouldn’t dare steal Dustin’s thunder;-)

Thanks again to EVERYONE that came out!!!!! You are all welcome to stop by any time that you are in the area. And, to the Wichles…. Let me know when you want that fire pit put in. I’d be more than happy to help.

-- Cheers and God Bless

I’m surprised nobody mentioned the purpose of the lumber swap: our own little contest. I think I finally figured out what to use the lumber I received for. I have some interesting ideas and may integrate a few accents using the exotic scraps I also picked up on Saturday. Now I just need to complete my current project so I have room to begin the next one! :-)

Have your say...
