I've lived in Laingsburg most of my life, accept for a 2 year stint in the Army in 70-72 where I was stationed in the Fulda Gap in Germany. That's about 1 Kil. from the east/west German border. It was a missile base and we were considered fodder as far as the Army was concerned. I got out 2 months early and went back to college which I was doing before I got drafted, twice actually. Once in the old draft in Sept. of 69, then I received orders not to report, that they were starting a new draft, and chances were good I would'nt have to go. Well my lucky number came up 85, so I was drafted in April of 70 and became a radioteletype operater/armored personal driver/mechanic. Go figure. I did'nt know one end of the old radios that they had there, let alone the hulking tank I had to drive. It was during Veitnam and I had very mixed feelings about the war as did many people at the time. However, as I arrived home in my dress greens there was a lot of negative attitudes being displayed towards me and the uniform which made me bitter for a long time. I did'nt want to go, but I did and I am proud of that fact to this day, I did my duty when called upon. I am proud of our men and women that serve today. It's a whole new ballgame for them. They go in expecting to serve 2,3,or 4 years and end up having their tours extended for God knows how long. I just read on MSN that their getting 22,000 suicide calls and thats just vets. Wow, it's got to be tough! I think back about how much we complained about the damned food in the mess hall. These poor guys probably get one hot meal a week. They still have to pick the sand fleas out of the food. Anyway I got home went to school a bit. Went back to work in the foundry I worked at prior to going in, stayed there for 20 years until they folded. Was layed off a lot so went to work as a carpenter, both residential and commercial during the many layoffs and when it closed I worked in a drop forge for about 3 years before they closed, then went back to school, got a degree in counceling, worked in a 14 bed residential drug/alcohol facility for 12 years both counceling and then took a job as the business manager, which paid more. I fell in 03 breaking my back in 2 places and fell again a couple 3 years ago breaking my tailbone in half, breaking a rib puncturing a lung, had emergency surgery on my left elbow because when I fell I broke the tendon and it was hanging by a thread so I had surgery on that also. Just recently I had a melanoma removed from my face and bunch of infections removed from my rear. So I have'nt had much time for my woodworking or have'nt felt up to it of late. Now I have cancer again. I am trying to keep a positive outlook and visiting Lumberjocks helps me keep upbeat. God Bless You All. mike PS This is my new grand baby, Logan. Woops, this is my wife and I about a week after I got out of the Army in 1972, Jan. 19.Woops this is me holding my new grandson Logan.

Maybe you can give us a report on the O’malley Router you bought. Tell us how you like it.

Howdy neighbor, Sorry it took so long to respond to your comment… Yep, I’ve drove thru Laingsburg a time or two (somewhere around Bath as I recall)… Our place in Harrison is a little south of town, right off the freeway… Just off Mannsiding Rd, real close to SnowSnake Ski Mountain (if you remember seeing that). Sounds like my brother in-law has 120 acres close to where your buddy had land, he is on Harding Ave, that’s about 5 miles west of town… Yep, I too like the fishing around here… Budd Lake is good, but there are little lakes all over the place…
Nice to meet you Buddy

Thanks Mike, for all your support, because of people like you I am proud to be a part of this great site. You have some cool projects to be proud of. If you were closer we could get together but I don’t even go to the store unless were out of food so I probably wont be out your way any time soon.

Hi Mike,
I’m sorry I’ve been kind of slow answering your last comment. It’s nice to know that someone misses you. I’ll have to keep posting so you know I’m still kicking.
It sounds like you have quite a set up for fishing. If you launched that boat on our lake, the water level of our lake might come back to normal. LOL!
Pull that fish finder wife of yours out of the water, & give her a big Hug!
Your Buddy, Dick

Hello Mike
I enjoyed reading your bio. I grew up in royal oak, went to Michigan tech for college and fell in love with the outdoors. I lived in traverse city for 11 years after college and moved to kentucky in 1995. I still have my boat set up for salmon but I can’t seem to find time to bring it back to MI to fish.
Have a great day, Scott

I’m going to be doing the holiday shop (santa’s work shop) for a few of the local schools in my area ! I’m looking for ideas for fast , easy projects with little cost to make , so I can donate them for the under privileged childeren to give to their parents for the holidays (x-mas & such) . Childern of all walks of life also find joy in giving to their parents and other family members on the holidays , It gives them a sense of pride, and happyness! The school asks that I make sure that it would be something of a non-religious background to all cultures !If anyone has any plans or ideas please send them to me soon december 17th is my deadline. Thank you everyone that took the time to read this !Happy thanks giving!!!!!
