My original legit interest in woodworking started when we went on a family vacation to Jamaica. While we were there we bought a nice carved Angel Fish. Well my wife wanted to get two more so we could have one for each member of the family but no one had any 'good' ones. We ended up buying some roughed out fish with the idea I would finish them when we got home (which I did, pretty successfully I might add).
After carving those two fish I found out that I really do enjoy working with wood. Suddenly being drug out of bed on saturday mornings to go yard selling wasn't so bad. In fact I picked up a 1.5hp craftsman router, table and 15 bits for $10. Since my first little project I've carved a name plate for my son, and a christmas tree (about 8 inches tall)., and I built two saw horses based on the design in the December FineWoodworking magazine.
For christmas this year ('09') my wife bought me a small little craftsman table saw, my parents got me a decent circular saw and a jig saw, my sister-in law got me two 12 inch clamps and then I bought a set of clamps from woodcraft (2 bar clamps, 4 small C clamps and 4 spring clamps). I have the router, table and bits and then a set of 12 chisels I originally purchased to finish the fish. So I feel I've got some tools to start making okay stuff. Now I just have to figure out techniques and all that jazz.

Welcome to Lumber Jocks! This is a great place to get – or give – advice about woodworking on the forums and the project posts are a wonderful source of new ideas. I look forward to seeing your projects and posts.
To get the most feedback on your projects, it’s best to only post 1 or 2 at a time. This way you will get feedback over several days and from a wide variety of members.
Please enjoy your membership.
