I would like to introduce and welcome Weekend Warrior Woodworking Magazine Contributing editor Graham Haydon!
Hello all my name is Graham Haydon and I’m woodworker from the UK. I have had the good fortune of working with wood for a living. I trained as an apprentice Carpenter & Joiner when I left school in 1998 for a period of three years. My family have been professional Carpenters & Joiners since 1926 when my Great Grandfather started the business. I would spend time working with my Dad during school holidays both on sites and in the workshop which gave we a great introduction into the world of woodworking.
My experience is mainly with solid timber and joinery items such as windows, doors and stairs but we also make furniture, kitchens, wardrobes in both traditional & modern styles to whatever specification our client needs
As my job role has evolved over the years it has led me further away from the bench and closer to the desk. That’s fine but, I also relish my own personal woodworking projects that allow me to interact with the huge topic of woodworking and all the good stuff it has to offer. At the present time I enjoy hand tool work but I also feel power tools and machines are equally inspiring and relevant to the craft.
I hope you enjoy my short article that James has been kind enough to publish within his Magazine. I would like to think the article gives an insight into hand planes and how they can be used to prepare timber.
In the meantime check out his awesome videos here.
