Watch the movie “Count of Monte Cristo” (3-4 years ago, with Richard Harris). There is one part in it that shows you how.

But don’t try it at home, I’m a professional :-) !!

cottonwood is very fiberous. In the cutting part of turning it plugs up in your goudge and in the sanding process it takes longer to sand. The fibers just lay down instead of sanding away. I also put on 6 coats of finish and the wood just sucked it up. I’m sure there are ways to make it more successful to turn but i just didn’t really have fun.
