Good morning everyone. I’m almost ready to start spraying my stair treads but had a quick question….do I need a sealed exhaust fan when spraying waterborne lacquers or will a general exhaust fan be ok? My lady might get mad if I blow up the garage.

MOHAWK says of their waterborne lacquer : “This product is not expected to burn under normal conditions of use.”

The solids in the lacquer can combust AFTER drying, but it shouldn’t be an issue for your spraying scenario.

Water based will be fine – there are some solvents in the waterbased to help keep solids disolved, but it just isn’t possible to build up an Ëxplosive concentration – short of pointing your spray gun at a propane torce 12 inches away.
