Cutting Board Design Software Demo Video

The cutting board designer is mostly finished now and I wanted to post a demo video and a link to the application which anyone can download and use for 7 days. I have sent temporary licenses to some people who volunteered for some beta testing. I have a few more licenses to give out if anyone is interested in some beta testing. If you’d like to give it a try the installer can be downloaded from: http://www.1024studios.com/CuttingBoardDesigner_Setup.exe

Here’s the Video

What works:
Creating cutting boards from multiple panels, saving, opening, pretty much everything except…

What doesn’t work
Build: the build button will generate a materials list and step by step instructions on how to build the cutting board. This has not been implemented yet.

Known issues:
The display height and width on the screen doesn’t always update, we’re looking into the best way to keep theses values updated. This is just a display issue with the height and width and does not actually effect the display or design of the cutting board.

I am open to any comments, suggestions or feature requests. I’d like to add some more wood to the preset list, but I’m unsure what woods I should add so if you have suggestions let me know.

I’ll test it if you want to shoot me a license. Looks pretty cool. Thanks.

Just finished making 5 cutting boards. This would have been great to have. Would still love to try it. Send me a license if you care to. (BTW, I downloaded the file from your link above and Norton says it has some kind of virus.)

Hi RoodyJ
Norton doesn’t think it’s a Virus, it just doesn’t know what it is:

Very Few Users
Fewer than 5 users in the Norton Community have used this file.

Threat Details
Threat type: Insight Network Threat. There are many indications that this file is untrustworthy and therefore not safe

Basically because no one’s used it before, it thinks it’s unsafe.

Considering I just made it, that would give reason as to why no one has used it.

But it’s not a virus, nor infected I just re-scanned with Security Essentials to make sure.

Just as an extra mention, this is something small software developers like my company have to deal with a lot because Anti-Virus companies often flag legitimate items just because they don’t know what they are.

Here’s a pretty good (even though old) article about it, it’s been going on for years.
http://blog.nirsoft.net/2009/05/17/antivirus-companies-cause-a-big-headache-to-small-developers/

And more, from Symmantec’s own site the “virus” it says it’s infected with “(WS.Reputation.1)”
http://www.symantec.com/security_response/writeup.jsp?docid=2010-051308-1854-99

“WS.Reputation.1 is a detection for files that have a low reputation score based on analyzing data from Symantec’s community of users and therefore are likely to be security risks.”

Since they’ve never heard of it before, they assume it’s a virus.

Overall the decision is yours to trust me, though I am posting this with my real name, and my real address information is in my profile, I wouldn’t say I’m a criminal mastermind ;)

And even more information

Nice work Jeremy! will it have the capability of using diagonal field pieces? That would be a very helpful addition. I would be interested in testing the software.

Great news! I researched the virus threat and IT IS NOT a virus. Sorry for the scare, and thanks Norton for such a thorough (though not very helpful) scan. I’ll remember this one.

Thanks, Jeremy, for the great software.

Thanks Jim,
I’m looking forward to getting the Build portion implemented, I think it’ll be awesome to have the program generate the instructions for you.

Jeremy, I will beta test if you send my a license.
What kind of cost are you looking at for the application once it is perfected?

Nice work Jeremy! I will help you beta test in exchange for a license. I also happen to do this for a living for a software company based in Redwood Shores that I’m sure you have heard of.

This is a nice upgrade to the free CBD software that is already being used by lot’s of guys on LJ’s

Your Boarder feature is a nice addition.

Your custom color feature is a nice addition.

The “adding a slice” part is nice but it would be better if you can see ALL the lines on the board, not one at a time when selected.

How about a tab with some guidelines about how to Finish and Care for your new cutting board?

Can you design a feature that would allow angled cuts such as the first 2 and 4th link examples shown on this link? How about for woven boards as shown in my picture?

Once you Add a panel, how do you delete it?

http://lumberjocks.com/projects/52268.

Thanks.

Sent my last 2 licenses for testers out to jeepturner and Michael.

@Bob
A lot of great feedback thank you! That’s what led me to design this software, while the free cutting board designer was nice, it was lacking some features that I wanted. Seeing that it was pretty old I didn’t think it would be updated any time soon so I took it upon myself to make the next generation cutting board designer.

Adding grid lines that can be toggled on and off is pretty easy, I can add that without a problem.

I’ve gotten requests for other types of cutting boards, and it is certainly something I’d like to look at adding. If I knew how you made your angled cut cutting boards that would help. :)

No you can’t delete a panel once added, hmm I should change that.

@WoodworkingGeek
Not at this time, but since it is written in .NET it could be ported to Mac if we get enough demand for it.

I was messing around with testing and found a cool pattern so I finished it out.

Updated the download link: http://www.1024studios.com/CuttingBoardDesigner_Setup.exe
This new version allows you to remove panels, and has an ability to toggle grid lines on the cutting board as requested by Bob.

It also has the starts of the build button, when you press the build button it will generate a materials list for you.
Here is an example of the of a materials list (for the walnut strip cutting board): http://www.1024studios.com/cuttingboard/walnutstripe.html

Also posted the cutting board files I’ve made so far:

If you free up another license I’ll give it a shot.
