I’m located in the far south western corner of Mexico, in Tapachula, Chiapas, an area rich in tropical wood, coffee and mangoes :)
My workshop is a small outbuilding, roughly 11×25ft, out the back of my rented house. I’m gradually building it up and struggling to make a living out of it. Nothing is straightforward down here, very limited range of tools and accesories available so have to be a little creative or just sweat that little bit more at times (and I mean sweat, around 40 degrees and extreme high humidity down here)..
Tools are very expensive here so most of what I have is far from professional grade, just making do and building things up, poco a poco (little by little)..
Currently have a small and frustratingly inprecise Craftsman Table Saw, Router, Orbital and Belt sanders as well as a benchtop Belt/Disc Sander, Handheld Electric Plane, Handtools, Compressor, Nailer and Spray Guns etc.

Jeth, how about posting some pictures of your shop when you get an opportunity?

Sorry guys, didn’t have any pics of the workshop on hand, it’s pretty small and hard to get a good shot of more than a corner at a time, whenever I have taken shots of projects they tend to obscure the view of the workshop itself! Will try to get some shots up at some point soon..

I have been absent round here for a few years now, having been mostly offline… Happy to be back, have posted a few recent projects and will try to get some shop pics up soon.. (even though the last request was in 2010!)
Now in a different shop so will update, with pics, asap…

You could always ship some of those exotic hardwoods up here and take back some tools ;=)

Well yeah, apart from all those regulations and permissions and transport costs..I’d probably end up out of pocket! Leave it to the big business with big money to invest, like everything else I guess… except making stuff ;)

Have your say...
