Ok….working on the seat finally… Red oak takes a lot of sanding that’s for sure…rough sanding so far…need to make both sides match…seat halves will then be mounted to each side of the body of the horse… Need to contour the seat to make it more saddle like…

Sorry….I overrode my original posting…going to try to repost my original… I have had these plans for several years now…thanks to the original woodworker for the plans… Horse will be a baby shower gift for a family friend… Made of red oak…pictures show most of the piece parts…legs and rockers are stacked on top of each other…not shown are the horizontal spacers… working on the seat…see my other blog post&...

Part 3: rocking horse project update

Made some really good progress lately… Holes for the macrame cord for the horses tail and mane have been added… I was able to cut the wedges needed for the legs…helps if you have the right tools…went and bought a 3 tpi Hook blade…it cut right thru the red oak… Rockers are now tied together with the horizontal supports… running out of time….I have to have it finished by Thanksgiving weekend… :)

Part 4: almost done with the rocking horse

almost done :) all together….final sanding going on…main body of horse needs to be attached to the rockers… rockers complete with 2 coats of Classic oak stain Main body of horse will have 2 coats of Classic oak stain, with the trim having a Cherry stain applied. Macrame cord for the mane and tail need to be added also…

Part 5: Final assembly

Yeah :) ...the rocking horse is complete…roughly 35 hours total build time (not including little mistakes :) )... One of the harder projects I have built so far…so much sanding of the oak to smooth everything down….matching the legs together…staining was the easy part :) saddle was the hardest part to make of the whole horse…all the shaping and profiling that had to be done…but it does look nice… pink ribbon since the horse is...
