Review of the Harbor Frieght/Central Machine Mortising Tool

Review of the Harbor Frieght/Central Machine Mortising Tool

03-27-2014 03:59 PM by jerrells | 7 comments »

I had been looking at the ability to make mortise and tendon joints for some time. Now the products I build are small mostly doll furniture. A lot of the pattern calls for this type of joint. I had been drilling dowel holes and using a cut in half dowel pin. There were some alignment issues. I researched the add on product for a drill press. I found both good and bad reviews. Therefore I was not convinced this was the way to go. After seeing a post suggesting the Harbor Freight/Central Mac...

Big Foot Scroll Saw Lift Arm

Big Foot Scroll Saw Lift Arm

07-15-2013 07:18 PM by jerrells | 15 comments »

I received my Big Foot scroll saw lift arm today and installed it in under three minutes. You will need a Torx T-35 tool to get the existing bolts out. Also be sure to watch the installation video to get the parts in the right order. With as much scrolling as I do this will be a very useful add-on to save time and frustration when changing blades or putting the blade through a hole in the center of a large piece of work. Very easy to use; just lift the scroll saw arm and it will lock in pl...

Clamps for glue edge boards

Clamps for glue edge boards

I do a lot of glue edge board glue-ups and was looking for a better and faster clamping system. I must admit the guys at the local Rockler store were not helpful with any recommendations on the product. Also, at least my box came with NO instructions at all. Now I did have in mind what I wanted to accomplish ...

Well I finally burn out my old cheap table saw. I guess cutting some hard oak limbs was too much for it. I shopped around for something that I thought woul;d fit my needs for years to come. I decided on the Dewalt 745. It is going to be a Christmas present from my wife, my daughter and son-in-law and some money i pitched in. I was going to wait till black Friday to see if there was a better price. I normally show at Lowes and they had it for $369 which seemed to be the going price. I just hap...

Blade Alignment (front to back)

Blade Alignment (front to back)

06-06-2011 11:08 PM by jerrells | 3 comments »

After having this saw for about 9 months, and using the heck out of it, I have noticed that the blade is not at 90- degrees – front to back. That means is is leaning back about 1/32 of an inch on the top side vs. the bottom (at the table). This was most noticable yesterday when cutting a 3-D compound cut and the cutouts were different size one side vs. the other. Now the almost useless product manual is of not help with this problem and previous attempts with Porter Cable have also been...
