I had this great idea to build a cool tv stand for our living room. Its part of my new recent adventure to build all the furniture for our house in Hawaii. However, at the beginning of the project, I soon realized that wood in Hawaii is expensive and hard to find. So I had to find other ways to cut costs on wood but not sacrifice the quality or the look. So my first idea was to use hardwood flooring for table top and shelves, and then frame it all in with real hardwood. So off to the flooring store me and wife went.
Two trips later we settled on some really cool acacia wood flooring that looked pretty crazy. Once I saw the wood together, I knew exactly what kind of wood I wanted to frame it in with… wenge. So off to Plywood Hawaii to buy the wenge.
Now, when I started the project, the idea was to save money on costs. Hence the flooring instead of lumber. Too bad I was dead-set on the wenge. Because the stuff was $18 a board foot. Ouch.
But the end result is going to be pretty cool:
